He is going to be there for a few days, he has a bad sinus infection and his doctor wants to keep him there until he knows for sure that the infection is gone. Kelton becomes dehydrated so easily even though he drinks lots and lots of water. His potassium levels get so low when he becomes dehydrated, we may have to give him more potassium rich foods or be prescribed a potassium tablet to give him daily..

Any kind of infection in the past has put him in the hospital.

I just got back from seeing him, he doesn't look good and he is irritable and everyone there felt it would be best if I left him alone until this afternoon..He kept trying to get me to see if he could be released early and got really mad when he was told he has to stay there until Monday. He understands why they want to have him there that long, he just doesn't like the idea of it, which is understandable. He was asleep when I left. I will go back after lunch and spend the afternoon with him.

I suppose I should eat something

This is what my husband keeps telling me..He is at work because this keeps his mind busy, I am a stay-at-home mom and I home school Kelton so my work is here and I don't have anything left to do..I cleaned the house last night, fed the dogs this morning, did all of Kelton's chores..I guess now I should eat and maybe take a nap..Unless I re-organize the closets :D

No - he doesn't look well - I hope he feels better real soon. The pink blanket would be enough to make my 14 yr old boy irritable :p Didn't they have a blue one????

Banana's are a good food for that, I crave them when I'm sick to the ppint where if I asked my mom for a banana, she said "Are you sick!?" LOL

We have him eat at least two bananas a day as well as other potassium rich foods..We have been through this before so we beefed up the banana consumption..I have over 20 bananas sitting on the counter now..Even the doctor doesn't understand why even with eating more potassium rich foods why that is not enough. Yesterday they ran more blood tests to see if they could find out why this keeps happening. I even have him take a multi-vitamin every day to help boost his immune system. Something as simple as the common cold throws his body out of whack.. Before his dx he was super healthy, now it is a battle

We checked on Kelton this morning and took him a fuzzy poster that he can color and some non-drying modeling clay..He riped into the modeling clay first thing..

He is getting scared, he started to cough last night and he thinks he is getting worse rather than better..I do not like to see this positive child so scared..

I am going to call the doctor to tell him what Kelton told me and see if they can see if he is coming down with anything else..

At this point in the game I do not care how long they keep him as long as he gets better..He still doesn't look good and I too am starting to get really scared as well..

We spent most of the afternoon with him and he told me and the nurse that he feels the same way as he did the day he was admitted. So it will be up to the doctor if they think he should stay longer. I want what is best to be done for him and if that includes a longer hospital stay then so be it.

He made all kinds of creatures out of the modeling clay and had started to color in his fuzzy poster. He gets tired easily and this of course worries me because this is the Energizer Bunny type of child, he keeps going and going..:D

I still think it is sad that a sinus infection can cause this much havoc on his system..He has never been sick with a sinus infection before, he has had a stomach bug that landed him in the ICU last summer

But all in all those were the two illnesses he has ever had in his life other than being dx with the diabetes.

I am going to go to the hospital this morning and I will see how he is feeling, his doctor wants to release him today, that is if he is feeling better. Last night he finally admitted to the nurse that he is worried about coming home because he feels the same way he did when he was admitted :(

I do know that the doctor will be prescribing an antibiotic for him to take for 10 more days after he is released. This incident has scared Kelton and his Mr. Invincible attitude has been crushed with reality, I do not know if this is good or not, but he is testing when he is supposed to and is taking his D more seriously than he was before.

The past month I have had to stay on top of him in regards to testing and correcting highs then re-checking to see if the correction bolus brought the highs down. He would go to friend's houses and not test or correct  he wanted to be like a normal non-D kid, which I understand, however, I would tell him he is a normal kid but he has certain responsibilities to his D.

Kelton has told me that when he does get to come home that he wants me to find where he hid the egg timer so he can now start to use it again to set the timer for when he is to test after highs.

I will update you all to whether he has to stay or if he gets to come home..I miss him like crazy and want him to come home if he is better.

Hope he's feeling better today...if not, i would refuse to take him home. Especially if he's saying he feels as bad as the first day he got there.
((hugs and prayers for you))

I hope your son starts getting better...poor guy, do they at least let him play video games in his room?

This morning when I walked into Kelton's room he was sitting up eating his breakfast and joking with the nurse..He looks so much better today than he has since he got there. We are now home and he is sitting on the floor playing with the dogs.

I had fun trying to find all his gameboy games, some were in the bed, some in the nightstand, some under the bed, one in the bathroom :D

He is still tired and weak but he is his normal self..First thing out of his mouth after the IV was taken out was..Gee I feel like I had a plastic canula in my arm for the past 5 days :D He is a big goof!!:D

He is so much better today than he has been..He is awake, alert and doing some school work..He woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed, and let the dogs out, got dressed had breakfast and had the home school computer up and running before his dad and I got out of bed..

He still gets tired easily, but that is to be expected.
