hi my name is Cari...I was diagnosed with type 1 2 weeks ago and my mom was diagnosed with type to also 2 weeks ago. how do i make sense of this all? any suggestions:confused:

Sorry, I can't give any suggestions. I was diagnosed nearly one year ago so I am still learning too.

i am almost 18 and live in the US, unfortunately.

I was 17 years and 10 months at diagnosis.
Suggestions:
learn a lot
don't get mad about blood sugar numbers
don't worry about weight gain in the first month or two
take it easy! cut other stuff out for the first month or two
learn what stuff your insurance does and doesn't cover for diabetes; then look at which of that stuff interests you
do silly stuff with diabetes- try making syringes water guns, do art with the test strips, draw on the insulin vials
try new products
don't expect things to stay the same

thsanks for your suggestions...i dont have any insurance and cant pay for anything so maybe ill get a job....revised... i keep forgetting i am 18...anyway they havent put me on any meds yet so i dont have to worry about that yet
