Bethany -
all insurance is not equal, but most will cover new meters. I think it usually falls under Durable Medical equipment. When we broke our meter we called the company and they shipped us a new one overnight. Most meter companies will either send you discounts or free meters. They make their money on the strips not the meters. It's worth looking into. :o

I just called to get a Accu-chek aviva for free, they are sending it out today.

You can call any of the manufactors and they will usually send you one for free. This is the number I called 317-521-2000 for the accu-chek aviva.:D

The companies give the meters away, so that they can hook you on their strips. (That's where the money is.) If your net cost is more than $10, you really paid too much.

You'll usually be able to find one of the good meters on sale for $20-30$, with 100% rebate, if you just check the Sunday paper drug store ads and wait for the one you want to come up. New models appear frequently, older ones don't show up so often.

J&J has been offering UltraSmart and Ultra-2 for less than $10 and nothing, respectively, during each of the last 3 weeks. Accu-Check Aviva, another EXCELLENT meter, has also been in the papers quite a bit.

The one exception to the rule is the Freestyle/Flash/Tracker-- Abbott has found that many people are so desperate for the smallest sample size that they'll pay full price. This one goes on sale much less often.
