So although I don't have a 504 in place for my son yet, I've been reading up on test taking and procedures. For those parents out there that have kids in grades where testing is common (say grade 3 and up), do you have a 504 or agreement for your child to check BG prior to testing (and if so, how far in advance) and, if your child is out of range - do they wait to take the test until they are in range? My experience from trying to get my son "in range" that could take a really long time. Plus, if they do test and are out of range but feel okay enough to take the test - yet perform poorly on the test - do they get to do a retake when they are back in range?

Probably a lot of simple common sense answers to this - but I just wanted to see what you all have in place to deal with this.

ours basically says that he gets checked just prior to the start and if he feels fine he is allowed to take it but may retake if he scores badly. He's only in 2nd grade, so we don't' normally do this for things like spelling tests or just regular old 10 question math tests, but we do it for standardized tests etc. He had a test the other day 90min done all on the computer (reading comprehension) tested at 232 prior and scored perfect on the test...so for him, so far, the high doesn't really effect his performance.

we have it in Hunter's 504 that he is to check his sugar prior to any standardized testing. He is also taking those types of test in a small group setting. That option doesn't thrill me but it was the only way we could deal with the possibility of him going low or not feeling right during the test and being able to leave without being penalized.

Seth doesn't necc. test right before every test, but if he does poorly, then we look back on his meter to see if he was low...If so, he retakles the test.

This is really interesting and not something that had occurred to me! Thank you for raising the topic.:)
