Over the weekend Phoenix and I met 2 people with T1 all adults and both of them had the insulin pump. The first one we met at the grocery store :p strange as it is. There was HUGE sale so we were standing in line for about 2 1/2-3 hours and Phoenix started to act funny so I tested his bs of course he was 60 so I give him juice, well the lady ahead of us just started to cry. Saying how she hates to see children have to go through all this pain and it just isnt fair. Well as I talk to her more, and explain that this is just life for us and yes it sucks but it could always have been worse then T1. She says to me " you are a very strong woman. I have had T1 for years and just got the insulin pump 3 months ago" she showed Phoenix her pump and told him how cool it was and everything. This was Friday morning....
Then Sat night we went to a friends house for her birthday party and there was another woman there who has had t1 since 10 y/o and has just gotten the pump about a year ago. she was very shy about it and wouldnt say much in regards to diabetes. But I explained to Phoenix how great the pump made these people feel and he got to see this woman eating brownies and cake and all she did was push a botton he asked me for THE PUMP :D  he said if he could have cake and not have to stop playing to go to the bathroom and do his shot then he wants one... I'm so happy we met these people. I think it helps a ton when kids see adults with T1 living a "normal" life... I just wanted to share.... It was a very positive experience for my family

Hey Jessie, that's great!! Mia loves meeting other people on the pump, and this was a big motivator for her to get one, too. I say go for it :)!!!

that is so cool. I know before Ian got his pump we would try to spot "pumps in the wild" as it were. In december we were on a bus in disney world and in walks an older teenager visibly wearing a minimed clipped to her pants, she sat right in front of me and I politely and very shyly asked her if she wouldn't mind showing my son. As soon as she did her mom jumped up and said "I HAVE ONE TOO!" lol. We had a nice little chat with both of them and Ian was pretty impressed.

Phoenix is terrified of new things in regards to his D cares. Friday we are getting a trial CGMS and he is scared I am hoping last weekend has helped to calm his fears, It is so strange I know there are tons of people out there with T1 but we have only met 4 (I'm not kidding either) I wish we were closer to some of you guys our kids could play and have D company :cwds: Phoenix feels so left out sometimes. :(

For Treysmom too.

I don't know whether this will make you feel better or worse (My hope is better) There are 3 kids with D close to Seth's age at his school. He's not really friends with them, they all know eachother, but they don't hang out. He has the same friends he's always had, and he doesn't feel left out, he just has more in common believe it or not with the same friends he's always had. I guess what I'm trying to say is that D has made Seth closer to his friends as they keep an eye on him...But, D isn't enough to form close friendships based on that alone they need to have other things in common too;)

Cool that you ran into people with D, I love when tha happens:D

Sam loves it when we run into people with the pump. I remember a year ago we were at a lake and he had ice cream, i was giving a shot and this nice man came up to us and told us he had T1 also, even showed us the pump. It was so nice for him to get a positive experience out of it.

For us, it is strange, but there are so many type 1's near us, I can think of about 20 in a 5 mile radius, that I know:eek: But we still love meeting people "in the wild" (love that saying)
