Halle Berry will be on Oprah on Tuesday talking about having her baby. I am kinda doubting she'll talk about being Type 1, but you never know. Just thought I'd post and give a heads up. :D

hhhmmm....I was going to post something about her after I saw one of the "entertainment" shows givign the news of her pregancy and reportingthat she has " an increased risk of birth defects due to her Diabets diagnosis" and I thought.....mis-information !!

I wish Oprah would do a whole show about Diabetes ( don't think she ever has ?? ) and her "best friend" miss Halle Barry can talk about it too !

I love Halle Barry...I know she gets a lot of flack for not being more public about her Type 1, but I think she is a great role model for my daughter. Every time she comes on I say, she has Type 1...

Does she have Type 1?
I don't think it's ever come out which type she is.

The press keeps messing up; but it is Type 1. She actually collapsed while working on a sitcom and that was how she was diagnosed.

I know she gets a lot of flack for not being more 'in the public' about it. However, I can understand not wanting to have to share all of that information with the press. It will be interesting to see what she says on Oprah...wish I could watch it!

Here it says she was diagnosed Type 1 in 1989 after being in a diabetic coma.

Thanks for sharing(smile)....Too bad some of the info is wrong..."Possably needs insulin shots" or "Can't have icecream w/o serious health affects" Grrrrr

In the People magazine that reported she was pregnant, they said she had type 2. I always thought she had type 1, though.

I have read various comments from her that indicate that she may not be a typical type one if she is one. I am pretty sure she stated she controls her diabetes with diet and does not take insulin injections. Ali

Information about her D is inconsistent, but I think I remember that when she had that auto accident a few years ago she blamed it low blood sugar due to her type 1 diabetes.

I have seen it mentioned here before that she might be type 1b.

If so she may have encountered confusion when trying to explain it to others even on a personal level, and therefore just avoids it in the media. Because we all know what happens when the media tries to cover diabetes....

However I do wish she would speak up about it for once and all!

This is why I wish she'll explain it better....why the big mystery ? It's all so obscure....

Here comes the witch in me......

Could it be she suffers from the "diabulemia" that you hear about ? Maybe she doesn't control it as she should and she keeps her weight off ??

Okay I said it....it was the not-so-nice thought that has been going through my head for awhile...call me petty....maybe I'm just jealous....

But, I think she would be such a great spokesman for Diabetes if she in fact even has Type 1

Great idea, Kim, to bump this. Should Halle's publicist read this she can see how many of us have liked Halle, but we have been extremely confused about what type of diabetes she has. Why it is so important is because kids with juvenile diabetes who require insulin to survive look at her as a role model for TYPE 1! http://kids.jdrf.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.viewPage&page_id=D7F7DADB-110A-9BB5-F8C205AD41ED170E

We really do need to straighten this out. These Type 1 kids still need their insulin to survive!!!!!!!!!
