So, I want to know what people think is the Coolest of the new products out there, and why.
I dont care if we are talking CBGM, or what, (and I know this might need to be in the "products section" but I want to hear what people are excited about)
I like the eye thing, where you can test glucose on your eyeball, with a light.
I like that but I also think the phone is cooler than all get out.
I like the idea of giving my kid something fun and high tech that will give me his bgs thru the day.

Also, what would you put on the market if you could? (aside from the obvious, "a cure" and "electronic pancreas" and all of that)

Well, it`s not exactly new, but I think it`s super cool- the Frio wallet! I love it. Also the keychain that holds glucose tabs.

My son is really into all the gadgets- we are on our 3dr type of meter since dx in May!

I would love it if they made a tester/lancer that was all in one (like the accucheck compact) but as small as the Freestyle mini. Then my son could carry it in his pocket or on a lanyard like he does his cellphone.

Neat thread:)

I am intrigued do you have a link?

I like the concept in the Accu-chek compact, having all of the stuff together. In actual practice, the screen is too dark and I can't tell when I've put enough blood on unless the meter is held just so. But it's a cool concept.

I would like to see weights for putting on syringes. I prefer pen injections in my stomach and legs, but syringes feel better on my arms, because of the weight factor. I'd like weights to put on the syringe while doing an injection in someplace I want weight, that I could take off after I use the syringe.

I don't believe this has passed FDA approval yet.

The patent was applied for in 2004 (there may be others)

Over the past 15 or so years, several companies have claimed to have developed non-invasive glucose sensors. None have actually worked. At least one company was sued for fraud by the SEC.

Until these products are proven in a well designed clinical trial, I will remain exceptionally skeptical.

Sometimes (fairly often, I think) inventors HONESTLY think that they have an idea which MIGHT work-- and for a year or two, they're honestly excited and working at it. But after really getting into the details, they find that it really isn't working, and a horrible momentum+embarrassment phase takes over-- they've taken investors' money, and don't want to anger their investors, or harm their own reputations. :( It's SO much easier to say, for as long as they can get away with it, that "it's working great, but we're still working on final refinements before going to the FDA for Pre-Market Approval". Even though they already know that the idea will never work.
These inventors and company CEO's are trapped by having too much pride. They need to simply announce that "Well, it looked promising, but it just didn't pan out." Hey it was an honest attempt, and the "venture capitalist" backers WERE taking a risk! Hiding from the failure makes everything turn out much, much worse in the long run.

A website with "kewl pictures", sucking up money from hopeful people who want to be successful venture capitalists, does not create a viable product. Pretty pictures of wrist mounted thingy's, with graphs or even Television shows on their screens, are easy to make. Typically, a couple of years after the idea has gone down the tubes, even the website vanishes-- and everyone tries to hide as far from the fizzled "breakthrough idea" as they can get. But frequently, the website is left there, continuing to ensnare the hopeful for no reason at all-- and this just keeps going on and on, long after even the scam phase is over. Kinda like one of those lost deep-sea fishing nets, continuing to drift around the Ocean and kill things, for no reason at all.

Yeah, the monitor STILL isn't water-resistant, and it's another "thingy" to carry around. (Minimed R/T CGMS can use the water-resistant 522/722 pump as the Receiver.) But Minimed users seems to have a lot of trouble with their "minilink" Transmitters (getting them to restart after day 6 is the "bad" one, day 3 and day 9 aren't a problem.)

The increased accuracy, and going a full 7 days between "time-to-trick-it-again" restarts, and the TOTALLY waterproof and never-needs-recharging Transmitter/Sensor combo (which NEVER comes apart by accident anymore), makes this the COOLEST of the four CGMS machines, I think.

And being the Coolest within the CGMS category, it automatically wins the coolest of all "new" devices. CGMS rules! :D:D

The coolest of the cool would have to be......

Drum roll please..........

The ability to test your bg, count your carbs, measure your insulin, and eat pizza, or whatever else you feel like, and not have to live on a restricted diet of the past, and eat on a time table???

Or the insulin pump, in which small doses would not be accurate, or easy??

How about diluted humalog?

Lantus, the poor man's pump?

Research to cure diabetes, rather then to score more money off of us all......

CWD website, without it where would we get this kind of support?

And lastly, smarties, honey, corn syrup, glucose tabs (she's not hot on the gel) , sports drinks, and all other forms of fast acting glucose.
