Tomorrow morning (early) is our pump start. Jenny won't let me put in the set without emla. Since it takes an hour to work, I thought I'm going to do apply the cream at home, but then how long does the effect last? -

I am not sure but we were told not to leave it on any longer than for 2 hours. We never had to wait to insert the new site after we took it off. I'm sorry I am of not much help :(.
Good luck with the pump start!!!

Hi Caro,
There is some guidance in the package insert - hard to find but it does say to wait at least one hour, two hours for painful procedures. I think it has it's maximum effect at the two-hour mark. Once, I forgot that I left the cream on her and realized it 5 hours later! It was quite pink, but Isabelle didn't seem to mind and it calmed down soon after removing the Emla.
Good luck!
Good luck with your pump start!!! They say 1 hr, but in reality, 20 or 30 minutes is great...my daughter can't even begin to feel it after that. And it is potent for up to 2 hrs...and I know this is probably late; but usually, the dr will put it on, and then start all of the set-up, and then you are done and it is time to insert it!

You might want to apply it in two places, just in case there's any trouble with the first one. NOT THAT THERE WILL BE! But you know, it's peace of mind...

good luck with the pump start!!!
We usually apply it for a minimum of 20 min, however if we are in a hurry, I have him put an ice pack over it, seems to do the trick.
I suppose it also depends on which type of set you use too. I'm sure we could get him to "suck it up" but I figure if it relaxes him, all the better!

Thank you all for the good wishes:) We had a crazy 24 hours, she had a 45:eek: last night(the lowest number so far), which of course let me awake for most of the night. At 9 am, we had to be at the hospital, were late due to traffic (accident), then had to wait forever for the nurse and the doctor to be there. Then I had to do the whole procedure in front of them, which made me very nervous, but I was able to do it. By the time I did the insertion, the emla was on for at least 3 hours and it still did the trick.
After the hospital we had to run around town the whole day, and Jenny was really excited when we picked up a little snack and she was able to do a quick bolus. Now we will see how the night goes:rolleyes:

glad your day went well!! I remember we also had to be at the hospital all day and the first thing Ian did after insertion was sit in the caf and eat a whole donut. lol. Donuts had been always an extra shot snack and mostly he skipped them. That day - he was so happy. I even took a picture.
