..and I am grateful that we caught it!!:eek:. Normally, each grams of fast-acting carb brings Mia up 7-8 points. Tonight, all rules seemed to have gone out of the window...

Here is what went down:

5:00pm BG 100, 4 grams free (no IOB)
5:20pm pre-bolus dinner 30grams
5:35pm well-balanced dinner, protein and carbs, she eats it all
7:15pm BG 69, first sign of trouble, 12 grams free, glucose tabs
8:00pm BG 117, 7grams juice, trying to get her to BG 150 for nighttime
Mia goes to bed
8:30pm Mia comes back out, saying she feels low (bless her!!), BG 69 again, 10 grams free
8:55pm BG 67 :eek:, another 8 grams
9:15pm BG 47 :eek:, Mia is pretty out of it, we sit her up in bed trying to wake her and manage to feed her 3 glucose tabs, so another 12 grams
9:40pm BG 158 whew, seems that we are heading up, finally!!
10:25pm BG 283...the rebound high has kicked in...

All in all, Mia needed 50 grams (!!) to turn around her low!!!! oooof. Guess I am not going to sleep a whole lot tonight...

I will make another post in reference to rebound highs. Wondering how to properly treat/without overtreating rebound highs. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

It is taking more and more to bring Kelton out of lows:eek:

Last night he woke up and was 47 he drank 8 ounces of orange juice(30 carbs), 15 minutes later he was 40, this time he had pancake syrup maybe a tablespoon @20 carbs, 15 minutes later he was 50..More juice and glucose tabs @15 carbs for the tabs and 30 carbs for the juice..15 minutes later he was 45..I was in a panic on the inside and grabbed the honey..Two tablespoons and 15 minutes later he was finally 84. Since this was @ 2am I had him eat a cracker pack(35 carbs)..15 minutes later he was 120.

When he woke up again this morning he was 110

He used to be able to drink 4 ounces of juice and it would correct lows..I am not sure what is going on:confused:

You must have been worried. Sounds like you got through ok though.

What could have been going on was:
- too much insulin;
- too little food;
- prior heavy exercise;
- delay in digesting the food.

Been there - done that; been terrified every minute! That has happen about 4 times to us in the last 1 1/2 yrs...I have got to say - that is 1 reason I love the pump - I can actually SEE how much insulin is still in her so we can avoid some of those bottoming outs...

We are on the pump but don't have a CGMS yet (holding out for the Navigator). I know she had some IOB when she came in at BG69 after dinner but her IOB is only about 3 hours so I don't know why she continued to go low after that...

Those lows are sooo scary. It is great that Mia felt the low and came and told you.

A few months ago, Madison had a low in the 40's that took 1.5 hours and 100 carbs later to get her over 100. I almost had to take her to the emergency room or use the glucagon, because she said she couldn't eat or drink another thing. She finally stabilized in th 140's. But, never had a rebound????:confused: I felt horrible for her.

And I still can't explain why that happened. :confused:

I don't know that I've ever had a rebound- it's just that if I eat 50 carbs because I'm spending an hour and a half trying to get up to 60, then the carbs I've eaten are still only half kicked in- they won't be totally in my system for a while later, and then I'll go high from that.
