Tessa has been pumping with an Animas IR 1250 since Nov 05. After about 6 mos, we suddenly had loss of power and called the service number. Turns out there was a crack in the casing near the battery cap, and it had loosened the cap enough to keep the battery from working. They sent us a new pump the next day, no problems.
Now, last night when I was changing the battery, I noticed the same exact kind of crack right near the battery cap! I know I didn't over-tighten the cap, and don't remember seeing it before, but then I don't routinely look at the entire pump very often and could easily have missed the small crack.
I'm getting ready to call Animas again. The pump is keeping power, so it must not be severe enough to loosen the battery cap this time, but I know there aren't supposed to be any cracks at all.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem? Is it a design flaw in this model? Last night I kept thinking, "we are *so* dependent on this pump, and I don't want to be without it" It's a very vulnerable feeling.
