This question came up while I was talking to my mom today about doing the JDRF walk next month. My mom and sister always do the ADA walk and she was asking about the JDRF because she has never heard of it except through me. Well, I looked on their website and it looks like they don't even have a Kansas chapter, where she lives.

So then she started asking what the JDRF was and she has always thought it was only for KIDS with diabetes, she would have never thought it was for her because she's in her 50's.

With all of the talk out there about distinguishing between type 1 and type 2 diabetes, why is it called the Juvinille Diabetes Research Foundation -- it makes it seem like it only applies to kids who are diagnosed. What about kids with type 2 and what about adults (like me) diagnosed with type one later in life?

Anyone know?

Years ago, type 1 diabetes was called juvenile diabetes. Type 2 was called adult onset diabetes. Originally the JDRF was called the JDF. Within the last few years they added the R for research to their name.
