Hi all ,

Theo is due to start nursery school this week and i'm dreading it.
The staff have been to see him and fully understand the importance of keeping an eye on him but i'm still very unsure.
What if he is low ?
What if his pump comes out ?
What if he is high ?
Will they remember to call me if something happens ?
Will they remember to check his bm ?
All this worry and he will probably be ok .

Am i worrying over nothing ? Am i just over protective

Please somebody help before i go insane !

looks like it may have already happened

What if he is low ?

The staff will probably treat his low. Isn't that why you trained them?

What if his pump comes out ?

I assume you mean the site. Does this happen at home? Your child would surely notice if it were pulled off.

What if he is high?

Don't they know how to give insulin for a high? If you told them, they probably will do this.

Will they remember to call me if something happens ?

If they don't understand something you have trained them about, I imagine they would call.

Will they remember to check his bm ?

I am not quite sure about this one.

All this worry and he will probably be ok .

Every mom worries. The care may not be a quick as what you might provide, but your child will walk out of the nursery that day. He will probably have had a great time. This is a learning process for them as well -- remember that you were not all that skillful when you first came home to life with diabetes. Be patient with them as they learn.

My son was in preschool when dx'd at 3. He went every day and I worked to train the staff. I still worried, but my son was OK. Finally, after 10 years of being OK, I finally am lessening up on the hypermanagement during the school day.

Remember your son is there only part of the day. Usually everything goes just fine. As soon as many days go by where things are fine or only a few problems, you will relax.

Lisa~
It's scary trusting someone else to take care of your child with D. Trust me, we all understand. After going through this with my parents, school, daycare, girl scouts, and I'm sure there is going to be many more in the future.
The best advice I can give you is educate the heck out of them! Tell them things twice, give them instructions on paper, encourage questions, and it's very known that they ARE NEVER BOTHERING ME- CALL ME if you need to, I'll be happy to answer any questions at any time.
Good luck, but most of all, I hope he LOVES pre school!!! :D

maybe i just worry about leaving theo. He has never left my side. I have always been there for him. I know that the staff have been told what to do and a care plan is in place but i'm just still very unsure.
I know i can't wrap him up in cotton wool but he is my baby ( even though he is 3 )
I just need to chill out (easier said than done )
Sending big hugs to every parent going through this ((((((((((())))))))))))))))
speak to you all soon !

I think that's a wonderful idea. He'll be so proud of you when he gets older! How many years of school will you have to complete.

On another note...What are the hotter months over in England? The dh and I would love to vacation there sometime!
