We have had trace microalbumin in Devin's urine sample twice in the last six months. Because it was not a first morning sample, the doctor told us not to worry because it was likely due to exercise. However, the tests have been during a normal day without excess exercise.

We did do a first morning test this week and it was clear, but I am wondering if this is an early sign of anything. Should there be any microalbumin at all?

BTW, Her a1cs are great now, but she was over 13 when diagnosed about a year ago.

Thanks!

Carson had a pretty high level at his last appointment so we are at home today doing the 24 hour urine test :(. Yuck. Apparently there are a lot of false positives or things that can skew the initial lab results, so that's why we're doing the (more accurate) 24 hour test.

His doctor isn't that worried yet -- he's had very good A1C's and only had diabetes for 6 years. Not for 20-30 years or something like that.

I would think that with just trace levels, you're doctor would just wait until the next check up and look at it again...

I am just learning about the albumin and it being related to diabetes. I'm a part-time home health aid and took care of an elderly lady that's had alb since she was a little kid and she's close to 70. She's not on dialysis or in kidney failure or anything. She did develop diabetes later in life. Reading about it definitely sounds scary, but it's probably one of those things that aren't as scary as it sounds(of course bearing in mind caution is taken)
