Yesterday at school my daughter who is 10 was feeling low. She went to the office and sure enough she was 41. She ate her glucose tabs and was sitting there waiting her 15 minutes so she could recheck herself. The asst. principal come over and ask her to do him a favor and take his lunch tray back to the cafeteria. McKynzie did because she didn't think she could say NO to the principal. Was he crazy or what!!!!!! Needless to say I contacted the school the next day and spoke to the nurse since the asst. principal was out for the am. She talked to the principal and she spoke to the asst. later that day.

good grief, did he not realize why she was there? he's not capable of taking his own tray back? I'm sure any kid would like to help out.. and thats an extra trip down the hall.. but when she's low, and that low.. isn't the time to ask.. hope next time he thinks before doign that..

That does sound a little crazy but could it have been that he didn't know why she was there and saw just a student sitting in the office so he asked that student to run an errand?

Thats what i was thinking as well, at lease I hope that was the issue, I would hate to think that the asst. p knew the cjild was treating a low and asked anyway.

I hope he relizes that your daughter was there for a good reason and NOT to ask her to do it again unless she is heading back to class..... Was the nurse in the office? If so why didnt she explain why she was there and told the assit. Principle no herself......

Well the asst. principal said he didn't know that's why she was in there but I just have a hard time believing that. First of all he knows my daughter is a diabetic and the week before she was in the office treating a low and he watched her check herself and was talking to her about it. I guess we will never know but I did tell my daughter if anything ever happened like that again to just say NO and explain why no matter who the person is. Also NO the nurse was not there at the time this happened or it wouldn't have happened. The nurse we have is great! She puts her diabetic students before all others.

Not to upset you, but I think I would give him the benefit of the doubt. I think most kids, including your daughter when she's feeling good, would be fine doing the asst. principal a favor. It might even make them feel important. He probably just thought she was waiting for the nurse to check her bg. I'm sure next time he will be more careful...:cwds:

I think you are right telling your daughter to explain to anyone who asks them to do something when your waiting out a low, because most are not thinking D like we are day and night.
Add in your 504 that when low if she is asked to do something that could cause harm to her it fine for her to say no
