Its become a red tape nightmare. Ya gotta love big school systems.
OK, basically it all boils down to the fact that Jason needs and is approved for a 1 to 1 health para. Its in his IEP. Problem is...there is none to be found. The principal the nurse and the "head" secretary (who has a teenage daughter with type 1 ) have all been very nice and reasonably helpful. However all attempts have been unsuccessful to find said para. I have a call in to the regional health director...waiting for a call back. I meet with the school social worker on Mon. With some luck this will be resolved amicably in a day or so.
So, to this point J has been attending class. I have been coming in to escort him to the nurses office, back to lunch and then up again. Repeat at snack time. His teacher has basic instruction on D, but has been told to call the nurse or myself in case of any questionable behavior/symptoms. I have literally been running up and back to the school all day. I pretty much have to as well. The RN has yet to receive approval from the region doc for my endo's orders. So she can not technically do his pump.
OK, here is where I need some advice. Jason, and his sister, have asked if they could attend breakfast at school. Am I correct in assuming that they "have" to accommodate this? Would the same hold true with the after school program? (Not that its an option for this year...but next is possible, as I need to return to school/work) Or is this pushing my proverbial luck here?
Thanks in advance! :cwds:
