:cwds: Just wanted to say, happy weekend and that we are excited to be able to attend the Sugar Show at Six Flags over GA, this year. Of course this will be the first year for us, since diagnosis but at least we will see a lot of exhibits and learn a lot regarding managing diabetes! Hoping of course to get some "free-bies" and handouts. Always get excited about trying a new lancet or meter!!!
I already ordered my own diabetes t-shirts and will be proudly wearing those!!! Can't wait to have a great time with our son!!! This has been a really tough year for all of us and best of all he will see that there are soooo many "normal" kids out there with diabetes and that he has nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about.
Now if I can only get him to wear sunscreen! :p
Blessings and have a great evening!

Hi Zimbie!
They had a good turn out. They had about 4 sessions regarding information. We attended the 504 plan and the "what's new" one. The what's new was mainly talking about the omnipod. There was a sales rep, doing a presentation regarding it. It was interesting, but I don't thinka child would be responsible enough to keep the pda portion of it on them, without losing it along the way. It is not tethered, so if you misplace it and walk away...it is gone! My son, can't even keep his head on straight, so I would be constantly worried about where the darn thing is. : )
Other than that, the weather was great and the kids really enjoyed meeting each other and swapping some stories regarding diabetes.

Hi Zimbie! :cwds:
Yeah, last year we also did the ADA expo here and that was the first time my son got to see an insulin pump up close. After that he was very interested in getting one. We are still debating with one of the endo's on the group here, since he feels with Lantus and Humalog, my son's numbers are great and there is no need for him to be tethered.
You know I have noticed that the "freebies" have gotten leaner over the last few months. When he was first diagnosed we went to a Halloween JDRF event, and Accu-check actually had a booth where they were handing out the Accu-Check blood monitors right there and then. Now they just hand out coupons and you have to go get a prescription to get the free monitor. We just did this with the Accu-Check Compact Plus. It was kind of a pain, because the drugstore wanted to verify that we have a current Accu-Check monitor prescription, which we didn't have since my son got the first one for free at the JDRF. We had to wait until the doctor's office finally called in the prescription to go pick it up. But it is a great monitor by the way, with the built in lancing device. Son's new best friend now. :)
