View Full Version : Update on My Video - Unbelievable Feedback

The feedback to my "Hope is in a Cure" video from the Diabetes Community has been overwhelming for my DH and I. We have received hundreds of comments and "thank you's" from parents of Type 1 children. Last time I checked the video had been viewed over 9000 times on youtube. This is amazing to our little family in NH. Many chapters of JDRf have requested copies of the video to use at their kick-off meetings and "Walk" sites (even Australia). The Diabetes Research Institute in Florida contacted us and has asked to use the video on their web site (I changed the last frame of the video to reflect DRI on their copy). JDRF and DRI are working on getting permission for the song before they can use it - I probably should have done that first :D but honestly I didn't know how:confused: We are absolutely thrilled that a video that we originally intended to raise awareness among family and friends has been getting such international exposure. All of this can ONLY benefit our children.

Almost all of the feedback has been positive yet some of the comments represent mixed feelings. You can visit the following blog site to see an example. Scroll down to see Melody's comment and then scroll down to see my husband's response (I am SOOO proud of him!!) I hate to feed Melody to the sharks by posting this here because she does seem to finally "get it" by her response to my DH's post but I truly believe her thought process and those like her's do nothing but hurt are cause.

To clear up the confusion - my daughter's name is Tara Dawn (hence the Tara references and the Dawnsmom username)

Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know that we are grateful for all your comments on the video and are thrilled that it seems to have spurred many of you to make your own.

I thought your video was very poignant. I am very grateful for everyone who brings awareness to diabetes. I hope the rights for the song are released and JDRF and DRI can use your video.

All I can say is Thank you for trying to help people understand and bring hope for a cure

I honestly can't think of ANYTHING you could have done better on that video...Besides all the people I've already sent it to, I'm going to send it to Seth's teachers this year, so they can have a peek into his life. :)
Thanks again...Heather and family

I know this is a little of the topic on this thread but.......

How do you make a youtube video? I told my husband that we are doing the walk for the cure this year and we thought a good way to get it out there is to make a video of Phoenix's cares and email etc to our family members and friends but I have no idea how to make one. If anyone could give me some tips I would appreciate them

thanks in advance

I sat watching your video with tears streaming down my face. You managed to convey everything we feel on a daily basis. What an incredibly moving video. If you are not in some type of production job, you just might have missed your calling!;)

Hi Lisa,
The video you created was touching. I wrote a poem for the walk last year but a picture is worth a thousand words! Tears streamed down my face as I realized my teen son now sleeps with his hands under his pillow too. Thank you for sharing it with us and giving people a glimpse of what our children's lives are really like.

Your husband's rebuttal to Melody's comment brought tears to my eyes...it was perfect. Especially the fact that even though family members might be saddened by my daughter's disease for her - they really do not get to glimpse a day in her life...and the endless hours I'm up at night to keep her the happy child they see. I sent the video to some family members and they were deeply moved....as is everyone who views it. Thank you for spreading the awareness and making those outside our world care about this cause.
