Anyone heard of or use this pump? I've been trying to get a pump for the last year and a half and it's finally happening. I'm set to get it in a month. And the Animas 1250 is the one my insurance company will cover.
I've looked into it quite a bit and it was actually my second choice for a pump (Deltec Cozmo was my first choice).
I'm just curious if anyone can give me some insight to pumping in general, and if this is a good choice.
Also, I'm a college student and have been having a very difficult time this quarter with blood sugars, and my grades have gone down the drain, I'm getting 2.0's this quarter, I'm normally a 4.0 student. I'm really hoping that getting on the pump will help keep my blood sugars under control and help me with my concentration and ability to think. Anyone have any thoughts on this too?

Well, I'm on a Paradigm 515 by Medtronic Minimed. I've been very very happy with it. Minimed is great, their customer service is wonderful. Their pump as features like a bolus calculator, and a meter that sends your blood sugar to the pump. I've never heard of the Animas 1250.
I really like pumping, personally. You have to be disiplined(spelling) though. Checking your sugars regularly is key. It's really great if your schedule isn't regular. It allows a lot of flexibility.
Hope I was of some help! Good luck!

Animas is a wonderful company and the 1250 is a great pump!
Very small and easy to use. Cate had the IR1000 for almost 3 years and just recently upgraded to the 1250 and has been thrilled with it!
Animas has great customer support too!
I hope the pump helps you get your blood sugars in line so you can work on school. I am sure college is hard to keep up with when you are feeling well.
Good Luck!

Well, I received my pump in the mail on Saturday, my pump start appointment will be within the next couple weeks. :)! I'm excited... and a bit nervous. How long, does anyone know, does it take to get used to wearing a pump?

Hi Munchkin. Just FYI, a lot of stress can release extra sugars within your liver causing your sugar to go high. Stress as in studying in college for had exams! So this is just a natural way for you body to say, "take it easy." I am sure your sugars will calm down, once the classes and work start to fall into place. Don't let it get to you. Good luck on your pumping. I have been reading a lot about all types myself because my son who is 10 was diagnosed in Sept and we have had some issues with injections and malfunctions. But I did hear about the animas. Seems most of these pumps no matter what are all very dependable and durable, so I would just go with what the insurance covers since being a student I am sure you don't have a whole lot of extra mula to cover "out of network" costs. Take care! : )

Hi,
We are shopping for pumps now too for my 13-year-old son, also diagnosed only in September but he is SOOO keen to start pumping. We are leaning towards the animas so I'd love to hear how it works out for you.

Hey, I have been pumping for two weeks now, and am *loving* it! My blood sugars have already come down from consistant 2-400's to a near consistant 80-140 range. I have been having quite a lot of lows, though, like a couple in a day - 50mg/dl range. But, my rates aren't perfect yet. Trial an error and just a lot of figuring out i what I hear. But it has been awesome! I feel the best I have felt in 3 years. My ability to think, my head has been SO clear, and my energy levels have risen like crazy! It's been soooo cool! I think that going on the pump is the best choice I have made for my health in a while. It has been a bit difficult at times, like I was very worried that having the pump was gonna change the way people act about me or play with me - but that hasn't been the case one bit.
The animas 1250 pump has been GREAT! It's got some really really cool features that I know I simply will not be able to live without anymore. It tells me how much insulin I still have on board (if any) from the last time I took some, that way I don't accidently take too much and go low. I also calculates how much isulin should *not* be taken based on a blood sugar reading - as well as the normal how much *should* be taken based on the bs reading. It is really an amazing little machine and I love it!
I hope your search goes well!
Merry Christmas!!!

I am glad to hear you are loving your pump and doing better.
Thomas has the Animas 1200. What is nice about the 1250 is the food list and carb count.

That's great news -- I'm so happy for you that the pump is working out well. I guess with this disease like many others, sometimes you don't realize how crappy you are feeling until you suddenly feel better!

Yeah, the food list is *really* cool. I hadn't used it all that often, actually, until the last two days. I was shopping all day at the mall, once with my dad and another time with my boyfriend. Being out all day we were hungry so decided to go ahead and spend a few bucks on fast food; anyways, when I went to bolus I remembered that I saw on the food list the particular restraunt we were eating at - so I used it. It was reallly cool because it had an exact number of carbs, instead of guesstimating, and my blood sugars were fine afterwards.
Oh, I totally agree with you, Holly! I knew that I hadn't been feeling too good lately, and knew that it was to be attributed to my blood sugars, but I didn't even know how much one little bit!
Anywho, Merry Christmas Eve eve!

i am on my 4th year with mt 1000 upgrading to the 1250 in December. The frist few nights where the hardest for me. I got myself tied up in the tubing and would roll over on top of the pump and it would wake me up. now I have no problems even when my daughter sleeps in the same bed. (evil nightmares!!) as far as college goes yes it will help you out it did me. just make sure to carry batteries with you it never fails that mine will die in the middle of a test!!!! other than that it should be an easy thing to get used to
