Hi,

I'm brand new to these forums, which I'm thrilled to have found. My 5 year old son was diagnosed on April 19th and is now on NPH and Humalog. We know we have some adjusting to do but we're already looking down the road and thinking about a pump. Does anyone know anything about, or have experience with, the Omnipod? It's a pump that apparently does not require a catheter and has an integrated glucose meter. We're just beginning to learn about these things but it sounds almost too good to be true.

thanks,

I have no experience with the Omnipod (my 4 yr old is on a pump though and we LOVE it - he started pumping when he was 2).

There was a question asked by the parent of a 5 yr old about the Omnipod to the D-team here at CWD and here is the response: http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com/dteam/2005-11/d_0d_dfb.htm

The 2 problems were the size of it and that it requires a PDA type device that has to be carried with it - which would be easy to lose!

I would encourage you to learn more about it though - and also pumping. CWD has great pumping conferences a few times a year around the country which are very helpful if you are considering a pump.
