Anyone else taking in the Freedom Riders 50th anniversary on the television, radio and internet? Our family is, and I feel blessed and inspired by this message.

That looks amazing. My Mother was very active in the Civil Rights movement in the 1960's, marched with Dr. King, and raised us to believe in equality for all. Thanks for posting. :cwds:

I first learned of this on Oprah last week or the week before. Sad to say I hadn't heard/read about them before this. :( What an amazing group of people! I am in awe with what they did!

I'm so excited about this movie. It played at my local film festival and John Lewis spoke on the panel. I wish so much I'd gotten tickets and taken my son. Some of my co-workers went and they said it was incredible.

I don't have a TV, so I can't wait until it airs online.

I forgot to set my DVR. :( I'm hoping our second PBS station will rebroadcast it. John Lewis is a great American. I bet it was a great talk, Rella.

Our state just cut all funding to PBS  Hate our governor.

Same here. I cried for an hour. Especially amazed by that girl who was only 11 or 12 and came to the rescue of those victims of the firebombed bus. But the courage of the people who rode those buses was amazing--they were "soldiers" risking their lives to make the lives of others better. They helped to change the world. How many people can say that?

Oh, I'm sure it will be on for a while. I saw a little this morning on WGBH World.

I have a feeling that this is the next step for us. UNH has dropped all support, so it's pretty much local business support.

As for the show, it was incredible. The hatred in some of those people was so strong it was disturbing.

I was watching this today with Harry. It was really a good program for us to watch together and talk about together. Harry said that if he was here in 1961 and an adult that he would have been a freedom rider. I told him that I would have been very proud of him:cwds: Harry's best friend is African American and Harry cannot for the life of him, imagine what it would be like to hate someone because of something so inconsequential as their skin color. In time all of our children will feel this way and Mr King's dream will finally be a reality
