Hey everyone. Thought I might start this thread to see if it takes off. On another non-D board that I'm active on, we have a "Coffee Shoppe" type thread. Everyone pops in to check in of a morning and throughout the day.

It's a place to check in with our online friends, to share concerns, etc. In the short time that I've been on CWD, I have learned so much and it has reinforced at lot of what I (we) do as parents.

So what do you all think?:)

Good afternoon...

Today I'm packing for our trip to see the family.

Outside of the laundry aspect of the thing, I find my biggest *packing* is Danielle's diabetes supplies. Do any of the rest of you feel overwhelmed when you try to figure every possible issue for an 8 day trip? Besides all the pump supplies...and extras, I'm taking a bottle of Lantus we have just in case something happens with the pump. This will be the first long vacation we have had since she started pumping.

Well, I'm off to pack. Thanks for listening.

what a great idea...:)

good luck with your packing and i hope you have a good vacation!

getting ready to go somewhere now is a hassle, lol. i wanted to go down to washington today, but never got anything ready lastnight. so monday it will have to be. i`m always worried i`ll forget the travel letter or passports or something, lol.

for any bc residents, walmart has meters on sale. 5-10$. usually they are 20 or so.

Great idea :D I hate packing even for day trips now, the D supplies just seem overwhelming and I always fear I will forget something that will be needed lately. We have yet to take a vacation since dx. I hope you have a wonderful time.

Not much going at our house today. I have to mail out invitations for Hailey's 11th b-day party. There are over 50! I think I went a bit overboard since this is her first b-day since dx. I went and rented the whole pool and invited every kid in her class and all of the kids and family members we know. Should be fun though :cwds:

That's a great idea. We'll be taking an 8-day trip in November and I'll make a note to remember a bottle of Lantus even though we are on the pump!

I would definitely take the Lantus, or the prescription at least.

I'm trying to get D school stuff in order. Breaking out the 504, literature for the new teacher, supplies to keep at school, and so forth.

We went to an amusement park this weekend. Abby had a wonderful time and D wasn't an issue, it was great. Abby ordered room service at the hotel, and I think that was her highlight of our whole trip.

How fun that D was on "good behavior" while Abby was at the amusement park!

We traded in the car I drive and purchased our 1st mini van (yikes I am getting old!) over the weekend. MIL watched our kids. It was her first time caring for Ella's diabetes. She did well with BG checks and Ella did have one snack while we were gone. She did her bolus just fine! In the 3 years she has never offered to learn. Everone else who knows how to care for Ella were busy. Thought never hurts to ask and she accepted. Sure feels good to have that first out of the way!!!

Hoping everyone is having a good start to their week!:cwds:

Well it's been raining for the last two days here, and frankly it's got my mood down.
We've moved Abby's site from her top of her rear to the hip and we're seeing better numbers, so I'm wondering if it wasn't an absorption issue. Why wouldn't the doctor tell me this? It's so frustrating. I'm going to talk to my dh after our next appointment next week about switching Endo's.
I'm meeting some girlfriends tomorrow night to get 3 M's. Massage, manicure and Margarita. I'm very excited about getting out with friends! It benefits the womans battered shelter. I think it would be a good fundraiser for D.

Good morning everyone! We're getting ready to pack up and head to my in-laws house for a few days. Danielle's readings have really been good while we've been traveling, which is unusual. Usually they go high and stay high, but she's doing a great job of managing and checking her sugar (even when she doesn't want to).

It's been very hot here (close to or at 100 every day) so we are doing lost of *inside* stuff (games, movies, scrapbooking, etc.).

Lanae - I'm glad that Abby's numbers are coming down. Danielle has always used her tummy, so we've not had any other experiences. But yes, if you are not happy with your Endo and have the option to change, it might be time to start looking at others.

Good Morning.

We had a good evening last night - we went and started the process for a pump. There were only 3 families this month, so a lot of time to ask question of the CDE and the pump vendors. We walked in thinking we knew what we wanted and walked out with the same opinion. My husband really liked the pump that I did and the one that the nurse recommends. She said she never recommends a pump but wanted to recommend one to us.

We chose the Animas.

So now I am filling out the paperwork for Animas to start the process. She tells me telling with the company our insurance says they work with is a pain, so I want to start now. We are also scheduling our required meeting with the child psychologist who has to give the OK before we get the pump.

Otherwise, numbers have been good here except for the regular low we have each night. Every night, pretty much, without fail. Can't wait for the pump to adjust that baseline overnight!

Ella's mom
08-09-2007, 12:30 PM
Lanae great idea to change where Abby set goes in! Would have been nice to get that suggestion awhile back though. Hoping you are having better weather!

Nancy very well that your pump process is underway! Ella too uses animas. We have had great customer care.

Danielle doing a great job checking BG when rather not wanting to! Hope your vacation rounds out well:cwds:

I am thinking Ella's bottom is showing signs of wear and tear even with a 3 month break of no sets. It has been a month back to pumping and we are now having occulsion alarms.....just like before that lead to trying other sites which did not go over well. Will do a set change to other side and watch to see if that side does the same.

Have good days!:)

My CDE and I joke that sometimes just TALKING about the challenge makes it change. So now I am afraid to mention when we have good days because I KNOW it will change the minute I discuss it - it seems to ALWAYS do that! :)

Ella's mom
08-10-2007, 12:33 PM
Yea it is Friady!:D

Ok so I am doing a really good job of not beating myself up.......called animas to see if they could help with the occlusion alarms Ella has been having. The rep. was very helpful and had me disconnect the pump and do a bolus and sure enough it did an alarm. The good thing sounding like it is not Ella's skin building up with scar tissue rather something to do with the pump itself or the cartridge. So they are overnighting differant cartridge with a differeant lot number to see if it is the cartridge. If no occlusion with new cartridge then animas will help return the remaining ones we have. If alarm keeps up then Ella will recieve a new pump.

Now if I had made this phone call back in spring then we may not have had to go through all the resistance of trying a new site location. Then we would not have gone back to shots for 3 months. However I learned a great lesson that Ella will go through differeant seasons of diabetes. So I am going not to be hard on myself because there is no way to change the past but to work on the here and now!

Phew got that all out! So hoping everyone has a great weekend. We are going to our county fair tomorrow!

The sun is out as of late this morning, and it's getting hot and muggy. Yuck, but it's better than the rain. Abby isn't as active when it rains, which affects b/s, blah blah blah.
No plans for this weekend. I'm going to start putting some literature together for the new teacher Abby's going to have. Anyone have anything they can recommend?! Or just send it to my email, it's on the bottom of my signature. And start the 504, for sure this time.
My son started football on Monday, his behind is dragging and tired. Abby can't wait for the games to start so she can cheer with the cheerleaders on Friday nights. RAH RAH
The husband is working a ton lately! He plans to go out of town for a week:eek:, that just makes me cringe. I can do it on my own, but boy it's a lot of work. I have a lot of respect for single parents out there. I remember those days, but not with D.

Bonnie-I'm glad your not beating yourself up, you're trying different options, and I think that's what I would have done. I personally feel that I think this handy dandy object that does math so well, made my child's life easier, and less stress for me CAN'T mess up. So I think I would have least suspected the pump also. I hope you get your problem resolved.

I like the idea of this thread, but haven't had anything all that interesting to post here until now. Lanae, check out the Barbara Davis Center clinical resources school page (http://www.uchsc.edu/misc/diabetes/school.html), they have tons of awesome information there!

Samantha gets back tonight from her trip to San Diego with her Dad! I can't wait to see her!!!:D

I was in a really horrible mood on Friday and Saturday (I think it was lack of sleep combined with Samantha being gone). But today has been a much better day--I actually slept 11 hours last night! The hubby and I have been looking for houses this weekend. We need to move in the next couple of months. I am simultaneously excited and stressed by the prospect of buying a house.

How has your weeks started out?

We got a few cartridges shipped to us and they are working well. Haven't had an occlusion alarm once today!

Dylan and Ella are staying the night at my parents house. I came home after a girls night out of Bunko.....went to check what her last BG was to remember she isn't even home. My mom does great with Ella so with no phone call everything must be going well. Now if I can just go to sleep without checking her BG!

Good morning everyone. I am back from vacation and back to work. YUK!! Catching up is no fun at all.

Drive home was long yeasterday - about 11 hours driving time...then and hour and a half or so combined stops, but we just needed to get out and move around.

Danielle did pretty good with her sugar most of the week. She changed the battery in her pump on Sunday night and put it in wrong and then went to sleep, so no insulin delivery all Sunday night. Luckily her keytones were still negative when she got up and her sugar came fine.

Nice to be home, but could use another day off to recuperate.

Hope everyone is doing well this morning. I have a mini-migrane and my brain functions seem to be a little slow this morning. Good thing it's not super busy at work.

I had one of those days by the end of the day yesterday that just everything was making me upset. Emma's numbers were actually ok (the expected highs but not the overnight lows) but boy, we just get so tired of it all sometimes. And its only been 5 months for us!

Glad you enjoyed your vacation!
I think Mama Belle struggles with migraines, she might be able to give you some advice.
Pump companies are pretty good about dealing with insurance companies. I hope they work it out for you.
Well, we're making a special trip to the Endo's office this time. We're going up the night before (hour & a half away) and staying in a hotel with an indoor water park. It should be a good time. We thought we'd enjoy the trip instead of making a quick day of it. We see 2 doctors (Endo & GI) and the CDE while we're there. I'm a smidge nervous, this is going to be the deciding visit on whether or not to stay with this doctor, and quite frankly I don't know why I'm nervous. He should be, although he doesn't know it. I'm not looking forward to her A1C, were still struggling with highs. I hope he's got some better answers than just the scale.
I'm still working on getting D stuff ready for school. Thanks for your tips on getting this accomplished. Now it's time for school clothes shopping. It's amazing how much of an opinion a 6 year old has on clothes! Have you ever heard of a child that doesn't like white shirts with something on it. Isn't that just strange?
I'm thinking of doing the cell phone route. I'd just like to know her number most of the time and they could text that to me. But it would be nice to have MORE minutes if they called me from the same cell phone company. I worry about room in her kit.

My daughter's school won't let her bring her cell phone to school, but they have phones in every classroom and let her use those whenever she needs to. We had an incident last year when their phone system went down and the nurse didn't have a cell. Sam was having D issues and they tried calling me from the principal's cell, but her phone kept dropping the call. It was awful because for like 10 minutes I had no clue what was wrong. I finally just drove up there. Kinda makes me wonder why they didn't just walk the 25 feet out of the front door to call me.

Yes, I have migraines. I've had them for the better part of my life (I think they started when I was eight?). They are awful and sometimes medicine doesn't help (but sometimes it does ;)). If you don't already have a good migraine medication, it is worth it to look into getting one, especially if they are recurring and bothersome. However, the biggest help I get for my migraines is going to the chiropractor. She is a miracle worker. I don't have to go very often, but when my migraines start to really act up I go in for an adjustment and they improve substantially.

So ... anyone here "So You think You Can Dance" fans? I just watched the first part of the season finale tonight and can't wait for tomorrow's results show!

momofsingingdiabetic

Danielle can have a cell phone but it cannot be turned on...or it must be on vibrate. She usually just turns it off so she has it with her. I wasn't worried about her having a way to contact me while at school, she called from the nurse's office when she needed to tell me she had a high or low. If it was within a certain area, she didn't call at all. We were more concerned about her riding the bus to and from school and what could happen during that time.

My headaches aren't really totally full blown migranes I don't think. Most of the time I get one once a month....it's hormone based I'm sure. I can usually take Advil and it works. If it's a little worse I hit the Goody's too (with the proper time between all doses). I am thankful, because I know they could be much worse.

I've not been watching "So You Think You Can Dance" (although I don't know why since I love that type of thing), but I can't wait until "Dancing With the Stars" comes back on. I enjoy American Idol too (most of the time). I admit most of my television watching is usually racing or baseball. Those are my obsessions.

So who do you think will win? I adore Danny!! He is such an amazing dancer. I also think Lacey is crazy talented. Neil has the best personality in my opinion and if it were based on personality alone I'd be voting for him. I think he'd do well in TV and movies. Sabra is probably my least favorite of the four, but only because everyone else is so darn good. I still really like her, just not as much as the others. I am mystified that she is as good as she is having only been a serious dancer for four years!

Happy Friday everyone! I'm so glad it's here. I need a vacation to recover from my vacation. Hopefully the dogs will let me sleep in tomorrow morning.

So how did "So You Think You Can Dance Go?". I thought about watching, but had so much going on. I've got a ton of bills and paperwork to catch up on from when we were gone. It wasn't really a "planned" vacation so I've got to juggle a few things to get some stuff paid. YUK!

Nancy, any more word from the insurance company? When we went to get Danielle's pump, we couldn't go directly through Smith's....had to go through 3rd party, but the insurance we had at the time was great about helping get it moving.

Not from insurance. But CDE got paperwork from pump company. She will hold it until our psych appointment next week and then send it back. I had already called the insurance company - 5 times no less - to confirm exactly what company they use for pump purchases. I have given that information to the pump company, including the phone number. That said, the CDE has said that dealing with that company is a PIA. I think its the insurance trying to push you around so you won't pursue it - but I've already been there with them and yelled at a number of them from shuffling me from dept to dept until it got resolved, so I'll get on the phone with them ASAP if the pump company says they are having a problem.

So, next step is Wed with the ped psych. The CDE knows we want to fast track because of persistent overnight lows, so she will expedite her steps once we finish that appt.

Sabra won!! Even though she was not my favorite dancer, she definitely deserved it just as much as any of the others. I still wish Danny would have won, but it is cool to have a woman winner for the first time! Plus for having only 4 years dance experience I think it is quite remarkable that she is as good as she is.

Neil is my favorite

I adore Neil! He is my favorite personality and a wonderful dancer. I think we will be seeing more of him on TV and perhaps the silver screen. Hollywood is nuts if they don't snatch him up and get him working in front of a camera!

I have found that the rice at Japanese, probably combined with all of the sugar in the sauces with the food - I'm not sure you can OVER bolus. Last time we went, my daughter ended up in the 500s and it took TWO corrections to get her down!

Happy Monday morning everyone. I think anyway. It seems like the weekends just fly by.

Anyway, Happy Birthday to my Matthew today. He is officially 11 now.

We have to pick up the paperwork at the Endo's office today and arrange a meeting with the nurse at school. Taking this one step at a time. We have been very lucky that she has never had any issues with testing in school and her teachers in Middle School were all receptive to her testing and trips to the nurse when necessary.

Brian actually met her Honors Geometry teacher last night at a teacher's event at Staples (his restaurant had a table there). He discussed Danielle's diabetes with her and her penchant for not turning in homework. She does it....just doesn't turn it in. Has great test scores, but awful homwork grades. The teacher said that she has a fix for that already in place. She also offers tutoring sessions for the parents every other week so the parents can be refreshed and help their kids with geometry.

Good morning everyone.

The nurse at the High School called me first thing this morning. We're going to meet with her during the open house on Thursday night. She sounded really great. She says the had 8 documented Type 1's there last year and several she knew of that were not documented. The county here has a new program in all the schools where every one of Danielle's teachers will have a red folder that has her information in it. She will also be allowed to check her sugar in the class when needed or in the nurse's office if she feels she needs to do it there. Of course, I will get more information on Thursday, but this really is a relief to get to talk to her.

Hope you all have a great day!!:D

Hi:cwds:

Ella and I met with her teacher this morning! The meeting went well. I am waiting for something to come up and for it not to work out as well as it has been going. We are very lucky to have her school(private) be so open to diabetes care. She will be starting pre-k only Tues and Thurs for 3 hours.

I will be teaching PE to grades 1-6th while she is there. At first was thought I would do all of her care. I shared how Ella needs to learn to trust others to help with her diabetes and that I can't be in 2 places at once! So the teacher took down detailed notes on how to check BG, count carbs, and work her pump!

Hoping those who are in school already are having a good start. If not going the best hoping the kinks will be worked out. School for us starts next week. Crazy how fast summer went!

I read the posts about driving with one eye open.......so not ready to think about Dylan and Ella driving:eek: I haven't looked at the results of the question this week about if teens or adults check BG before driving!

I'm invisible.

It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone and ask to be taken to the store. Inside I'm thinking, "Can't you see I'm on the phone?" Obviously not. No one can see if I'm on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me at all. I'm invisible.

Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more: Can you fix this? Can you tie this? Can you open this? Some days I'm not a pair of hands; I'm not even a human being. I'm a clock to ask, "What time is it?" I'm a satellite guide to answer, "What number is the Disney Channel?" I'm a car to order, "Right around 5:30, please."

I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the eyes that studied history and the mind that graduated summa cum laude - but now they had disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen again. She's going, she's going, she's gone!

One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a
friend from England . Janice had just gotten back from a fabulous trip, and
she was going on and on about the hotel she stayed in. I was sitting there, looking around at the others all put together so well. It was hard not to compare and feel sorry for myself as I looked down at my out-of-style dress; it was the only thing I could find that was clean. My unwashed hair was pulled up in a hair clip and I was afraid I could actually smell peanut butter in it. I was feeling pretty pathetic, when Janice turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package, and said, "I brought you this." It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe . I wasn't exactly sure why she'd given it to me until I read her inscription: "To Charlotte , with admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees."

In the days ahead I would read - no, devour - the book. And I would discover what would become for me, four life-changing truths, after which I could pattern my work: No one can say who built the great cathedrals - we have no record of their names. These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would never see finished. They made great sacrifices and expected no credit. The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything.

A legendary story in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the
cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny bird on the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, "Why are you spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof? No one will ever see it." And the workman replied, "Because God sees."

I closed the book, feeling the missing piece fall into place. It was almost
as if I heard God whispering to me, "I see you, Charlotte. I see the
sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does. No act of kindness you've done, no sequin you've sewn on, no cupcake you've baked, is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are building a great cathedral, but you can't see right now what it will become."

At times, my invisibility feels like an affliction. But it is not a disease
that is erasing my life. It is the cure for the disease of my own self-centeredness. It is the antidote to my strong, stubborn pride. I keep
the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder. As one of the
people who show up at a job that they will never see finished, to work on
something that their name will never be on. The writer of the book went so far as to say that no cathedrals could ever be built in our lifetime because there are so few people willing to sacrifice to that degree.

When I really think about it, I don't want my son to tell the friend he's
bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, "My mom gets up at 4 in the
morning and bakes homemade pies, and then she hand bastes a turkey for three hours and presses all the linens for the table." That would mean I'd built a shrine or a monument to myself. I just want him to want to come home. And then, if there is anything more to say to his friend, to add, "You're gonna love it there."

As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if we're
doing it right. And one day, it is very possible that the world will marvel,
not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible women.

Great Job, MOM

Thank you for that Laurie....it brought tears to my eyes....

Well tonight is the meeting with the nurse to turn in her care plan. From talking to her, it sounds like the whole county has a new action plan for medical care. There will be a red folder placed in every room that Danielle is in with her information in it. From what it sounds like from our phone conversation, it sounds like she will be able to test wherever she wants...room or nurses office. Last year she could test where she wanted, but had to check in with the nurse to turn in her numbers. We'll find out all the details tonight. I can't believe it's already here. My baby girl is in high school. *sigh* and not so much a baby anymore.

Holy Cow it's been busy. The last few days have been so busy, but I wanted to give an updated on how Danielle's orientation went.

IT WAS AWESOME!!

I feel so much better now that I've talked to the school nurse and her teachers. Danielle can test in any of her classes that she feels she needs to. She can test in the nurse's office before lunch, or she can just test at lunch...no need to stop by. All of her teachers offered to keep any supplies in the room that she things she might need. After today, she's decided to keep PB crackers and OJ in the different rooms. I was just so happy that we aren't going to get any resistance with her care.

Now today, we attended a 90-minute seminar on Meal Planning and Carbohydrates. It was good, but I knew most of the information they were talking about. We got a free meter for going (actually two since I had registered Danielle for the class too). They are both Accu-Chek. Our prescription is for the Freestyle (for the Cozmo pump), but I'm sending the Accu-chek Compact Plus for her to keep at school for right now. Since there are 17 strips in the drum that was provided with it, she should be set for awhile. I'm going to call Abbott and see if I can get a meter to keep at school that uses the same strips as her pump.

After the seminar, we grabbed something to eat and headed to south Charlotte to shop at Steve and Barry's. They carry the Sarah Jessica Parker line and it's really nice. Great prices and very modest. As Danielle put it today...she doesn't like to show what she has. LOL. I thought that was funny. Then we stopped by Office Max to check on a couple of things that were in the ad (should have gone when it came out Sunday). After we left there, she says, "I'm going to check my sugar...I feel low"... 54!!! YIKES...and nothing to eat (that is another conversation too). Anyway I gave her a stick of sugared gum and pulled into the grocery store...and headed back to the OJ. It came back up pretty good, but that's an odd feeling.

Sorry this was so long, but I just wanted to catch y'all up on my busy few days. School starts Monday...I'm sure that will be busy too.

I have a ton of paperwork to look at I'm told. LOL. She rode home with the one of the kids in the neighborhood and I think she was home less than 7 minutes after the bell rang. That won't last...she's still waiting on her bus assignment to get fixed.

On another note, DS (non-d) called hubby this afternoon from school. He fell in the cafeteria and hit his head. Thought we were finished with the nurse at the middle school....good thing we like her.

Good morning everyone. What a crazy first part of the week....Thank goodness it's Thursday, right?

Danielle had missed 4 out of the 5 days school was back in (she went back yesterday and today). We've been fighting morning ketones. First with amost normal blood sugar and then with high blood sugar. I had all her basals increased to try and combat the ketones. We would get back to normal of an afternoon/evening but them by morning it would be all out of whack again. Sent all the stuff to the endo and the nurse called me back yesterday afternoon...and they increased ALL of her rates and ratios. End seems to think, like we do, that it's an insulin sensitivity due to puberty. So her basals have gone up about 50% in the last month. YIKES. We're now at 54u of TDD for basal.

Anyway, hope you all are having a better week... and remember, tomorrow is Friday and it's always 5 o'clock somewhere.

I cannot fathom that much insulin!! I hope she is able to get rid of the ketones soon. I know they can feel so yucky with them.

Tori is experiencing morning insulin resistance so I had been tweaking her I:C and I was changing the wrong times  I saw 8a and thought breakfast, but she gets her insulin at 7:45 so the changes I was making were causing her to go low after lunch because that ratio was off. I am glad I caught it after only 3 days.

Good morning.

We've had two days of nearly perfect numbers. One out of range high each day following the school lunch (Ugh...always tricky with the terrible lunches they offer). I am so excited, though I realize now that I've just jinxed myself!

We visited the endo last Saturday, and the little tweaks that she suggested seem to have worked very well.

I am considering increasing his lunch I:C ratio, or maybe upping his basals after lunch, but I'm afraid either will screw him on the weekends. I suppose I could make patterns on his pump, but I'd bet we'd forget to switch every weekend. Oh well, I am still thrilled with the past 2 days!

Good morning my friends.

Just thought I would drop by with some caffeine...both hot and cold for those that need it. Seems like we have lots of sick parents and kids floating around and it doesn't seem like anyone is getting much rest.

DH is in IL again with his parents. His dad had more surgery last week and gets to come home today. Brian is scheduled to fly back on Friday and I hope he doesn't get snowed in.

Danielle's sugar is wacky again...but low this time. I guess her new PE class is doing good things for her sugar. She's eating a 15g high protein snack before PE...uncovered (she's not been able to eat anything uncovered since dx). Sugar has stayed decent and even low in some cases. Last night she was 55 at the end of choir practice. The extra exercise could account for this along with the fact she has moved her infusion set to her arm. She was afraid of a kinked canula with all the stretching and fitness stuff they have been doing.

Anyway. Happy Hump Day to everyone and I hope everyone starts to feel better soon.

Okay...I brought the caffeine in this morning if anyone needs any. I even brought supplies to set up an IV drip....;)

Danielle is packed and on her way to Washington DC for the weekend. Her clothes were easy to pack....the medical supplies....YIKES. I always forget until she gets ready to pack, how much extra I need to send with her. I sent extra of everything.

And I know her sugar will be crazy this weekend. Mostly high I am sure from all the food. I told her to be smart, but there is only so much you can do. Dinner one night at the Hard Rock Cafe.....Yep....there's a lower carb meal:eek:.

On the other hand, they will be walking a lot. All the memorials and Smithsonian. Congress and the White House. Cherry Blossom lantern Walk. And they sing at the Lincoln Memorial and the World War II Memorial.

Happy Thursday everyone!!!

A summary of Day 1 in DC....

Danielle called me when they got to DC. I asked about her sugar levels and got an...."Ummmm"...... Oh, boy. She tells me she had a cookie and it just shot her sugar through the roof (over 500). I assumed that she hadn't bolused for it. Correct and move on. I could fuss, but she's 7 hours away and could easily just hang up on me (kidding). Well the cookie may not have been the cause of the high blood sugar. Poor thing had several "issues" yesterday and I only hope it all happened yesterday and she'll make it through the rest of the weekend unscathed.

Issue 1 - it's that time of the month....nuf said for blood sugar issues.

Issue 2 - Bad infusion site. She has moved them further to her side (per endo instructions) and couldn't see that she had blood in the tube under we had several high readings and decided she needed to change it. We think it might have been the area it was in coupled with the long bus ride and her posture of sitting/laying that contributed to the issue as her number was fine before she got on the bus.

Issue 3 - Bad cartridge. She tried to screw the new tubing onto the top of the cartridge and something was keeping it from screwing on. I suggested a few ways for her to get the insulin out of the old cartridge (there was 200 units left), but she was so tired and so not feeling well from the high sugar that I just let it go. It happens. Had her give a shot to kick start the sugar coming down. She was worried about oo much insulin, so I told her to figure the correction and give 3/4 of it. She sent me a text at 5 this morning and she was at 239. Not perfect but I'll take it. Better than low though.

Issue 4 - we got her new shoes (had to be white to match the others in the group). Well, being the teen that she is, she didn't try them on until 6:30 yesterday morning. And they were uncomfortable. So last night while shopping at the mall, she bought a pair that fit better and weren't causing blisters and cuts on her feet.

*sigh*....I'm ready for a drink.

Today is Arlington National Cemetery, the Capitol, National Archives and Hard Rock Cafe (with a bunch of walking thrown in for good measure).

Happy Friday!!!!
