1) Have you found with your child that where the site is (leg/stomach/behind etc) makes a difference in their numbers?

2) Obviously everyone checks before meals, but do you check before all snacks? We always have but the CDE (not the one I usually deal with) said checking before smaller snacks wasn't necessary with the pump. But she also has implied a few times that we are checking too much. The other one has always been supportive of how much we check.

We have definitely found that different sites have different outcomes. We used the angled short insets and could not get good outcome in the butt. With the new cleo insets, we are fine in the butt. So I always think of site when I feel like a set is not working.

Your other question about frequency of testing. We always test before any snack. Unless it is a no carb snack...she may want some cheese or a few raw carrots and I don't freak out about testing, unless it has been a while. I definitely err on the side of over testing, partly because she does not mind, and partly because I am compulsive. If your typical CDE thinks it is fine, I would not let this one stop you from doing what you are comfortable with.

I have found the site placement makes a difference. We only use the butt area, but the side spot doesn't absorb as well so we try to keep the set more towards the back.

And I check before meals and some snacks. Obviously if in doubt and thinking she's high or low I'll check, and if it's been 2+ hours since she ate last I may check. But if it's less then 2 hours I usually don't bother cause I know I'll have a post prandial high and I won't really gain any valuable info. from it.

The bootie normally has more fat so the absorbtion is slow...Great for Lantus

The belly is supposed to be the fastest, not sure why...He does his lunch shot in his belly because it's the easiest area for him. But, I also use the belly area if he'a really high for some reason, and I want to get him down fast.

He hates his legs, so we don't do them, I would think it would be close to the bootie area, but, I wouldn't use it if their going to be running around, it might work faster:confused:

Sorry, were on shots, not sure if this helps for the pump...

Samantha seems to absorb insulin pretty much the same on her belly as she does on her tush. As far as snacks go, if it has been two hours or more since her last BG check/food/bolus she'll check before a snack. The main reasons for this is that if she's high I'd like to get that correction on board before she eats anything and if she's low I'd like to treat it before she goes and puts food in her tummy. We test whenever we feel we need to, any more or any less than that is not the right amount. Some days we test 20 times, other days we test 8 times. It all depends on the circumstances. I say do what you feel is right.

1) Yes. We started with the Comfort Short (angled) sets in Mia's stomach, and we simply could not get great numbers on her left side. Since we switched sets (Inset) as well as site location (upper buttock), we have had great consistency

2) Yes. We check before all meals and snacks, as well as before and after exercise, unless her BG was checked within the last 60 minutes (and she is not expected to drop quickly during this particular day of time). We also recheck after a high (>240) BG as well as a low (<70). Mia often wants to check herself in between, and I will never discourage her from doing so. We average about 12 checks/24 hours, everything included.

I have noticed that different placements give us better numbers.. I avoid those spots at all cost that give us tougher numbers.. we actually started using the back of her arms and get great results.. its my new favorite spot because it doesn't get in the way of her going potty (like her bum, and legs did).. we didn't think she'd have enough meat there but her endo said to give it a try and just change it out if we didn't see decent numbers.. when its in that spot it seems as though the pump is working magic... we've had ONE high number a day.. for the last several days.. we are dealing with lows more often now.. but not sure if that is the site, activity, or weather.. or all three combined..

we pretty much check every 2 hours during the day.. if she's eaten a meal and wants a snack a 1/2 hr later, I don't check, unless I think I may have guess carbs wrong and just want to check..but if its been more than 1.5 hrs since she got insulin and she wants a snack, I'll check.. because if I don't, it'll be another 1.5/2hours before I can.. and I don't like letting her go 4 hours without being checked..
