I just had to share that I'm so happy for Carson right now. We have a church right behind our house that has a Vacation Bible School starting this week. And one of Carson's teachers from last year is one of the group leaders. So Carson is over there right now at VBS :). The teacher knows completely how to take care of him -- I just send his glucometer and glucotabs in a lunch box with him. And I gave Carson my cell phone and showed him how to speed dial home if he needed to. They're having a snack each night, and I will go over every night during snack time to bolus -- but it's just right in our backyard. I can even see them playing the outdoor games from my kitchen window.

Carson's never been to any camp or anything like this before and I'm so happy he's able to go to a "normal" event without me there. Henry is with him too, so DH and I get a 2 hour break every night this week.

Just had to share. There's not may times I'd let him participate in something like this because of diabetes. But with the church in our backyard and a teacher from school -- how could I say no :D

How great for you. I look forward to that point as well. As parents of normally healthy kids, its so easy to lose ourselves in our kids - its so much harder with a child with special needs. Glad you get a little "me" and "us" time!

Good for you and Carson. That is great that his teacher knows what to do. ;)

Oh this is funny... Quinn just did his first big thing without me too.It was also VBS. His cousins were there as leaders and I checked in the kitchen each day and portioned out his snack and then....gasp...I left him there...for 2 whole hours. He had a blast. I spent my free time making myself sick with worry and eating junk food.

That is great, Wendy!! I totally know how much you guys treasure that 2 hour "free" time...and how cool for the boys to be able to attend VBS together! Unfortunately the VBS I wanted to send the girls to was not very receptive of Mia and her D so I decided against it. Ah well, we will do Diabetes day camp next year instead ;)
