Christian is on Humalog and NPH. Of course he eats every 2 1/2 - 3 hours. The problem today is that we are going to a BBQ and it starts at 4. He is due for his snack at 3:00 which means that he should have dinner 5:30 and 6:00. Do I just make him wait until 5:30 or would I be able to bump up his dinner to what ever time they start serving dinner? Today he had his morning dose at 7:30 and ate, had his snack at 10:00, he is eating lunch right now 12:30. So I don't know what to do.

i would let him snack at 2:30-3pm, then eat and have insulin when everyone else eats(if you give insulin at dinner still- we don`t give at bedtime as he`s 5-6bg in am).

if my son eats earlier, i just make sure he has snacks every 2-3hrs until bed- including his bedtime snack. we are on nph/nr too.

another thing i do is give extra nr if it is a high carb meal like a bbq/dessert. we give 1nr for 2 carbs. but i don`t like doing that, as i worry about lows at night. i`d rather have him work it off.

good luck and have fun:)

Well it is a swimming BBQ so I know he will work it off. Great thanks, I just didn't know if it was ok to give an early snack. That works out perfectly. Oh I'm so excited, I was affraid that he would feel left out in a way.
