does anyone else`s child do this? when my son is over 10 or 12 he is in the bathroom every half hour at least. this has been an issue when he is out with another family or on the 2 fieldtrips left after dx. and when he has to go- it is that or an accident. bedwetting when he goes to bed high, even tho he`ll get up several times to go.

this is probably as big an issue for him as exercise/lows, as it hinders sleepovers(fear of wetting the bed) and schoolbus trips.

he never wet the bed until a month before dx, or had this bathroom issue. at dx he had lg ketones, but since has not when we test. we use urine strips, but after he has reached 15 i have him test for a few hours. definately need blood test strips.

i feel so bad for him having to worry about the embarrassment.:(

Sorry he's having these problems...I had two thoughts while reading this...

1. Yes, I would try and get a blood keytone meter, just in case your missing the keytones.:(

and

2. Have you taken im in to his pediatrition? There may be other non-D related issues? Just a thought.

I hope you get this figured out soon

Whenever my daughter is very high she pees a lot. She could easily go every 30 minutes with high BGs. The body is just doing its job, trying to get rid of the excess sugar. It seemed worse when she was younger, but it may be that she has been in better control lately, so we aren't seeing it as much now.

The excess peeing is what clued us in with Emma. She would drink 4 sippy cups of water an HOUR and soak completely through a diaper in less than 2. Your body is definitely doing what it needs to do but you also need to be helping it along with insulin to drop the ketones.

10 to 12 mg/dl in Canada is 180 to 216 mmol/l in the US.

I am agreement with Heather. There may be another problem as these sugars, while out of range, are not really high to produce all that much extra urine.

My son produces extra insulin when he is in excess of 300.
