Hello,

I'm the mom of a recently diagnosed type 1. My son is nine. I'm just hoping to connect with some others out in this new frightening world that I didn't know existed until 3 weeks ago. I'm not even sure how to post, but I suppose I'll learn that, too.

Welcome to the boards. Sorry you have to be here. Our son was dx this January. It does get easier to handle (mentally) and just becomes part of your "normal" day.

Hello and welcome:) You did just fine posting for your first time. I am so sorry about your son. My son is also 9, he was diagnosed when he was 3. He is very smart, top of his class;) Is interested in everything! Right now his passion is making many things out of different colored duck tape. Dont mean to brag about him (although its hard not to:o ) I just want you to realize that the skys the limit for your boy. Let us know if you have any questions or if you just need a cyber shoulder. We are here:cwds:

Hi, and welcome to the best site ever! I found this site January 2010, my son was diagnosed the day after Christmas. You will be able to do this, You will find your "new normal", your son will be ok...honestly, he will. My son is doing just fine, we have our "highs" and "lows" and we have learned how to deal with them...or at least we TRY to deal with them, you will see as you go along. Come back here ofte, ask questions, someone is here almost 24/7 to help you. No question is a dumb question either. And, I found that as I educated myself, the less fear I had. So please, educate yourself by reading as much as possible, your local library I'm sure will have many books on Type 1.

Best wishes to you and your son, and your family....

Kathy

Hi, my son was diagnosed last year and missed the first week of school because he was in the hospital. We thought he had a UTI because he had started peeing a lot (even in the bed and he was almost 8 yrs old). We took him to the peds office and his BG was >400. We rushed him to the hospital, my whole family was freaking out and I thought the world was ending. A year later, we still have rough days (like today) but over all we're fine. He can eat things he used to eat. We are on the pump so he's not getting shots all day. His friends at school accept him and don't isolate him and we just keep going. One day at a time. Some days are harder than others but you'll look back at this beginning phase one day and it will only be a memory. You're stronger than you think you are and we're all here for those "weak days".

So sorry for your son's diagnosis, but very glad you found this website. Lots of folks here for you day or night, no question too small! Lots of information and support when you need it.

Hope you all are having a good day today!

So sorry that you are here...but glad you found us. My 12 year old son was just diagnosed in September so I know EXACTLY how you are feeling. The first day that I had to hold my son down to check his blood sugar, while he was screaming I thought I was never going to survive this. But it does get easier every day. Some days are worse than others, but nothing is a scary as that first month.

Check back here often, even if it is only to read the posts (like I do every day) because you will find you learn a lot from the people here. ;)
