When you were in the hospital...
What was your blood sugar? I know of a 400 case and 700. Also, how long did your doctor say you had it before it was diagnosed?
And...
Were you sensitive to light?

My lil' sister's was 800 and had been that high for a very long time. She couldn't see hardly anything and it took a while to recover--she also developed cataracts about six months after being diagnosed and was almost blind within three weeks. Her feet swelled about a week after she got out of the hospital, which the doctors said meant she'd had it a lot longer than they thought. She weighed about 65 pounds when she should've weighed 100.

Oh my goodness!! I've had trouble with my eyes too, but mine were just blurry. I've never heard of anything like that before, thank goodness it was caught before she got worse!

-Somewhere in the 400's.
-They didn't say, but I started to notice it about 5 months before I was diagnosed.
-No.
Weird thing is, my eyesight actually sometimes got better. For a few days I didn't need my glasses, and in the hospital it was blurry with my glasses on.

mine was in the low 400s. the doctor told me if I hadn't come in when I did, i would have been in a coma by the end of the week.

425.
I don't know how long I had it, but between two and thirteen months seems most probable. My hemoglobin A1c was off the charts- 16 is the highest they go and mine tested 16, so it was probably higher. They say that people who develop type 1 diabetes as adults (I am almost 18) tend to have longer onsets.
My eyes hurt from the light, and my night vision has gotten noticably worse. My vision in general had been very variable.

The reason for those cramps was a lack of potassium.

I was 503. My doctor only said that I was a day away from going into a coma. No, I wasn't sensitive to light, but I've heard that it happens.

I wan't taken to the hospital when I was diagnosed... is that normal? I was at my pediatrician and the nursed tested my bg and it was 260 and was a fasting one... then sent us for blood work and then we went home.. 3 days later we went to an endo and they taught us some stuff in a 5 hr class and sent us home...so yeah...

I went to the hospital. I did fasting bloodwork and I was 360-something and then 472 the next day with a 18.0 a1c. The local dr. wanted to do what you did, Diet DP, but my ped dr. called me in at the children's hospital and I was there for 3 days.

My a1c was 4 when I was diagnosed... now it's 7.2... It's never been higher than 8.7. What's normal for most diabetics? I've heard that the magic number is 7...

7.2 isn't bad at all. My last one was 10 :( ...Thats why I switched back to Lantus. 7 is the magic number for me. I hope I can get there by my end of May endo appt.
