Hi
Please could anyone help . I have 3 children and my oldest child , who is 3 years old, has been having many diabetic symtoms. She is always thirsty and is always going to the toilet. It is excessive and my friends and family always comment on it. She is usually a very good girl but she has been really irritable at the moment and it is like she is constantly tired. She has always suffered from thrush and she keeps complaining of tummy ache and is generally not herself. I keep taking her temperature thinking she may have a urine infection or something but she never has a temperature. I took her to the doctor and he tested her urine and said it didn't show any problems. I told him my concerns about diabetes and hw said it didn't show up anything in her urine. Please can anyone help. Has anyone been diagnosed through other ways and does a urine test always rule out diabates. I don't know what to do , I just want my little girl back!
Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Go with your gut instinct have blood work drawn. I told the peditrician that I thought it ws his sugar he told me it he diden't get better in a day or two to get the blood work. I wound up checking him with my mothers meter it culd not read it his blood work that was done at the hospital showed his sugar was 650. He was 3y 8mo in the process of potty training

Did you mention your concern about D to her pedi? Did he say specifically what didnt show up in the test or if he was testing for sugar or ketones?

Hi, thanks for your replies. The doctor didn't say whether he was looking for ketones or sugar. To be honest I am clueless when it comes to knowing about diabetes. I am not convinced the doctor I saw was all that through but I am taking her back to my regular doctor this week as it still concerns me. Also forgot to mention that she has started to wet herself once or twice a day, although she still uses her potty well. She has been potty trained for about 8 months now so it's not early days or anything. She gets upset when she wets herself and says she doesn't know why. Aslo her tiredness is ridiculous. She has 12 hours sleep - straight through no waking up the has a morning sleep and then within a couple of hours is absolutely shattered again.

bedwetting was a huge symptom of my son- he`s 10 and this has never been an issue. he was waking himself up to go, and still soaking the bed. he was tired, never wanting to play, and CRABBY. even the teacher noticed the behaviour change- she had never had problems with him before.

how about getting a blood glucose monitor at the pharmacy? they come with strips.

that`s all my gp did- he didn`t expect it to be anything, but poked just to be sure. his bg was 33! i think that is around 600 in the US measurement.

trust your mom instinct! hope everything turns out ok for your child:)
