For us it is :

10/gram 1 slice of bread (we use 2)
7/gram for 2 Tbsp Peanut Butter
9/gram for 1 Tbsp of strawberry jam

so for 1 sandwich total is 36 total grams of carbs.

Depends on how much peanut butter and jelly I put on it (I weigh them on the scale), but it's always in the 30s somewhere. Our bread has 13g per slice. I don't subtract fiber.

Our bread has 13g per slice. Our jelly is 10g per tablespoon. Peanut butter is a free food for us.

30 carbs. But this is our creative bolus. She was going low so we scale back.
we use gluten free bread 22 carbs.

The peanut butter should be 7 and jelly 6, so in theory - 35, but it didn't work.

Our PBJ's are 35carbs .

Bread=2 slices 23 carbs (Aldi's whole grain white bread)
PB=2 TBS 7 carbs (Aldi's or great value crunchy PB)
SF Jelly=1 tbs 5 carbs (great value)

ETA: Ashleigh's also a pb&j fan. She eats it every day for lunch.

WOW! Our pb&j's are 50 carbs each!!!!
Jordan eats two after school when he has hitting or practice and isn't coming home beforehand.

Bread: 15 carbs per slice = 30
peanut butter = 7
Grape jelly = 13

2 sl. bread = 26
2 T. peanut butter = 6
2 T. reduced sugar fruit spread = 12

So, 44, but she usually eats only half.

I use 28g for our PB&J.

We use 2 pieces of bread (14g each), but I use a tart cutter to cut the crust off so I deduct about half. We use 2 TBSP of PB (7 g) and 1 TBSP of Reduced Sugar Grape Jelly (5 g).

today it was 24g carbs

two peicec of 15g carb bread with the crust removed into circle shape so now just 15g carbs for BOTH pieces, 1tbsp peanut butter 3.5g carbs and 1tbsp of lower sugar jelly 5g carbs. If I would have left the bread allown it would have been 39g carbs.

That is our PBJ too. We don't eat them but maybe twice a year because the BS-in-orbit-around-Mars side effect.

Our is 36. Ella prefers to use Eggo waffles over bread (neither of my kids will eat "real" sandwiches...). So here is the breakdown for us:

2 Waffles:27
1 TBSP WHOLE FAT Peanut Butter: 3
1 TSPB Low Sugar Smuckers Jelly: 6

Ella LOVES LOVES LOVES peanut butter. I've never noticed until recently HOW MANY CARBS are in the lower fat. You know why?!?! They add sugar to make up for the taste! We have JIF downstairs. The Reduced Fat is 15 carbs per 2 TBSP. The Regular? 7!!

WOW!!!

Ours really depends on what kinds of bread ,jelly, and PB we have in the house. Right now it's this:
2 slices bread=23
2 Tbs. PB=7
1 Tbs. Jelly=13

But usually he just wants a plain pb sandwhich, no jelly.

I'm so glad to see some others posting high carb counts, because I read the first few replies and thought I must be doing something wrong! Our bread is 18 g carbs per slice, 10 g for a tbsp of jelly, and 3 g for s tbsp of pb. Grand total: 49 g.

Ours is 18.

The bread (sara lee delightful, multi-grain) is 9g a slice and PB is free for us. I don't cover the jelly because such a small amount.

I'm curious about the PB being a free food for some. Why is it free?

I'm curious about the PB being a free food for some. Why is it free?

I think it's because most peanut butter (full-fat kind anyway) has comparatively few carbs per tablespoon and the fat and protein makes it unlikely to result in rapid rise in BG.

Shortly after dx, our endo told us that under 4 g. was "free", didn't need to be counted. This is definitely a YDMV situation. On MDI, lots of things were free (DD had 15 g. snacks, etc.), but in our case, we use 4 g. of glucose to treat lows, so 4 g. isn't really "free" in most cases.

Now that we're pumping, at mealtime or a snack that I'm bolusing for, I count everything. I might not count 1-3 g. of something because there are many instances where I can't bolus for such a small amount (DD's p.m. ration is 1u:50g).

2 slices of bread at 8 per (nature's own whole wheat)
around 5-6 for the PB - weighed
around 5 for the no sugar added jelly

so .. usually 27-28.

Wow - gotta admit this thread has blown me away, sine it seems to be relatively simple and straightforward. This is the proof that YDMV. PB&J is evil for us. The sandwich has 56 grams of carbs, and we have to DOUBLE - and bolus for 112!

Took a lot of trial and error to get this one close for us. The CGMS has been a lifesaver here.

Our bread is 18g carbs per slice! I count jam in that quantity as 8g carb, and peanut butter in the sort of quantities you spread on a PB+J is free for me (if I eat more than that, I need to cover for the fat spike).

So, a PB+J for me is:

2 slices of bread = 18 x 2 = 36g carbs
Jam = 8g carbs
Total= 44g carbs.

Ours is 43.

2 Slices bread (Brownberry Oatnut) with crust cut off=30 grams
2 tbs Jif Peanut Butter=7 grams
1 tbs Smuckers Reduced Sugar Jam=6 grams

This. My son has taken a PBJ to school for lunch every day for the last 6-1/2 years.

We have to undercarb it a little to keep him from going low too.

bread 28grms(2 slices Whole Grain White)
approx 1 1/2 tbls low sugar preserves= 9grms
between 2 1/2- 3tbls peanut butter (is spread on both side) = 15grms

Now that is if we measured it which he doesn't any more, he just does 50grms for a pb & j sandwich.
