I was just reading about type 2 diabetics having higher rates of dementia, and insulin as treatment for dementia, and wondering: do type 1 diabetics develop dementia at higher rates?
Did the uncontrolled diabetics have higher rates of dementia because of diabetes, or does dementia make diabetes hard to control?
Have any of you seen any studies on this?
I believe the most recent research I read indicated that there was not a correlation between type one and dementia. Ali. P.S. Exercise, eat right and have good thoughts and you should do well. Ali. 36 years type one and healthy.

also many type 2 diabetics have had the disease undiagnosed or are not well controlled for years. Which causes damage to the blood vessels in the body and the brain. So that could be a possible factor. As long as you take good care of your self and keep you blood sugar in control you can live a long and healthy life.

On a lighter note....This latebreaking news just out......PARENTS of Type 1 Diabetics are much more likely to develop dementia. Many parents exhibit sudden onset with the initiation of pump therapy and seemingly endless and frequent overnight BG checks....:D:eek::D:eek::
