Melissa has a new one touch mini. The other night she did her regular pre night snack reading and it said 1.7 She insisted she didn't feel low, however, she had come home from a 2 hour swim practice so I made her drink juice etc. thinking she was falling fast. About 5 minutes later she tested again and this time it said LO. Never had that before. She still looked and seemed totally fine. So we grabbed another glucometer, used the same finger prick and tested on both glucometers. She read 10.9 on the one and 1.7 on the other! Did it again and got a similar reading. We went with the 10.9 because after 15 minutes of supposedly being LO we know she would have been showing us somehow with symptoms. I called Life Scan and they are having us ship this one back along with the strips and sending out a new one. Very weird though!!

interesting, I'm not too sure I like that one either. ds was just 170 before shower and then before lunch he said he thought he should test again---62. i guess i'll double check with the other meter

We have a mini that we use when we're out and about and have never had any problems with it. Hopefully the new one they send you will work okay!!

update--after seeing this i decided to test again with the mini as well as the ultra, got basically the same reading when you calculate the error factor.

We did have a problem with the new "*****", the lancet didn't retract and stuck in his finger, they are replacing that.

Our drs are not fans of the mini since right now they are not able to download them. I'm not going to let that be a factor since we just got 3 minis this week for free and will be keeping them in the cars etc. I'm hoping a1c is a good measure of how he is doing anyqways.

Glad that yours turned out better. Do keep an eye on it though. Some of the readings that we did later in the evening were basically the same as the other meter. It just threw out some very funky readings. At least when it read low we treated with sugar and she went high as it was an error which is not disasterous. However, if it had read really high in error and we had treated with more insulin when she was not in fact high that could have been serious!

Yeah, I figure we'll keep the minis on hand as backup at school, in cars, etc. Since we'll only be using them when we absolutely have to, chances are the docs won't miss those few readings.
