Diabetics everywhere...

I took my daughter to gymnastics today, her first day back since starting insulin and was speaking to one of the coaches just to give them a heads up even though I always stay and watch the classes. He told me his wife was type 1 and diagnosed as a teen. And I was nervous about having to explain things to them. LOL.

My husband also took the girls to the pool the other day and tested Sam's sugar and someone asked if she had T1. Her 11 year old son was there, on the pump and DX'd when he was 5 too.

Someone we also know gave our name to a lady that runs a local diabetes foundation and she called me today. She was very helpful and they have a smaller camp for D's at a nearbye KOA every year.

Not feeling alone in the real world today, and that's very nice. :)

Isnt it amazing to see how many people there are around you with type 1 diabetes? and it makes me feel relieved cause they are all living their lives and not letting diabetes stop them from doing whatever they want:cwds:

We live in a cluster area, not unusual at all to see kids testing at the pool or people wearing pumps.
I went up to the new football coach and told him that if Sam needed to stop what he was doing it was because of d and the coach asks me if I want him to keep frosting on him---this guy obviously GETS it:D

Not in Japan though. Romeo Echo (she's also here most of the year).. said she's been here several years and said she's never seen anyone check BGs. I know this country has the lowest incidence of T1D, but they MUST be here somewhere. But it's still "taboo" to have this "disease" I think. Well, we test and do shots anywhere and everywhere especially in restaurants. Thurs far, nobody's said anything and nobody has given us "the look".
Wish ~K would meet other kids her age who had ~D. She feels so alone in this sometimes.

I think it does make it a *little* easier to know other kids with D too. My husband and I were talking about how we know so many people with D...and I think location makes a difference too. There are some great children's hospitals near here, in San Francisco, Oakland and at Stanford, so I think when people relocate with D they take that into consideration and move here.

I'm sorry your daughter feel alone. I don't know how old she is, but it would nice if maybe she could find a pen pal or something at some point.

She's 6 1/2. Yep, T1s here are hiding. They must be here somewhere. But since it's so hush-hush here to talk about illnesses, we'll be hard-pressed to find them.

It is really interesting to find others out there, especially for Zach, who sometimes thinks he is singled out: the girl at the counter selling ice cream at DQ showed him her pump, one of my nursing instructors, and most recently, the technician installing our home security system.
