Hi, my names Candy and my 16 month old baby girl was diagnosed with Type 1 D a few weeks ago. I'm still finding it really difficult to come to terms with and would love to chat to people who are going through the same thing. I havent been able to track down any support groups in my area so am finding it all quite lonely.

Hope to hear back from someone..........

Hi sorry you are here but welcome - this is a great site and really helpful too. My little boy was diagnosed back in September - and believe me, never thought I would say this, but it does get easier. I live in Hertfordshire - there are quite a few people here from the Uk, so am sure you will get some replies - where abouts are you in the UK?

Hi Candy, I would highly recommend joining the UK CWD email list which is a very active and helpful online support group. You post and receive messages via your normal email. You can lurk and just read, join in by replying to emails (about 120 members) or start off your own email. It's very friendly and very helpful. Details of how to join are on the 'uk parents mailing support list' thread lower down the uk page.
Have you asked your DSN if there are any other parents of young children in your area she could put you in touch with? However 16 months is a young age to be diagnosed so there may not be any more children of that age in your area.
My son was diagnosed age 11 months old in Oct 05 after going into DKA. You can find me most days chatting on the UK CWD email list. There is another member whose daughter was insulin dependent from age 5 weeks and many others who have been through the trials and tribulations of dealing with a baby with diabetes.
My heart goes out to you. It is extremely difficult dealing with such a young child with diabetes. It does get better. Keep going and try to learn as much as you can. I would highly recommend getting the book 'Type 1 Diabetes' by Ragnar Hanas.
