She called me to tell me she was completely out of strips and was so apologetic because she truly thought she had more. When I told her my car was in the shop and I wouldn't get it until late this afternoon, she told me SHE WOULD COME TO MY HOUSE TO PICK UP THE STRIPS!!! I could not believe it!! This woman is a saint!! She just better never leave Cameron's school - LOL!!!
Just thought I'd share a "good" story about a school nurse for a change! Have a great weekend everyone!

We too have a wonderful school nurse! I know how fortunate we are! I jokingly call her my kids "other mother."

That is Great!!! We have a nurse just like that. Trey decided not to go the last day of school. Our nurse came out of her way to bring me his supplies, I was going to get them the next day.
She has also offered to watch him some this summer. She is a living DOLL !!

That's wonderful! It does help having such a great school nurse. My DD was in public school for K, homeschooled last year and will be going back to public school this coming year. I am SO glad the same school nurse is still there for her. It makes sending her back to school so much easier.

We had a school nurse who Came to our house after school when she realized Brandon left his meter at school. She was wonderful but we moved from that district. Brandon still goes there on Dr days to visit her. We love her.:cwds:

My favorite school care story was last year when my son's type 1 friend ran out of pen needles at school and the school principal took the d child home and broke into his house to get needles because the mom was not available (probably the only time ever that the mom was out of reach).
This was before we were diagnosed. Now my son and his friend can cover for each other with little booboos like this happen.
There are an awful lot of heroes out there in our schools.

Can I suggest that you write a letter to the principal, and copy to the nursing supervisor for the district, the superintendent and your school board saying how wonderful and indispensable she is? If your district has some kind of award (like Employee of the Month) or something like that, ask if you can nominate her. It's so hard to get a good school nurse (or any nurse at all, for that matter) that I think it's REALLY important for those who have a good one to let everyone in charge know. We need to get across to the ones who control the money that GOOD NURSES ARE VITAL to kids in schools, not just a line on the budget that can be cut out and replaced by a traveling nurse or a once-a-week person.
YAY for her, and YAY for you guys for having a wonderful one!

Beth, I am planning on sending a letter to the superintendent of schools and the principal once school lets out in two weeks - right now things are so hectic and crazy at their respective jobs that I thought it best to wait! But I agree that it is important to let everyone know just how great she is!! :)
