At Dylan's last appointment (which DH took him to) the endo told us to stop using his arms (develope bumps) and use his legs and butt. DH showed me the area the endo told him to do it but it was such a small spot; he showed me the upper, outer part of the cheek.
For those of you that give shots in the butt do you give them in any area that is fleshy?

It's actually a little higher than the padding you sit on. Does that help? It's hard to word.

We don't use bottoms as we've had the same problems as what you seem to be. My son used to use (before pumping) his hips & thighs a lot. We had to remind him to use his arms as he started getting some lumps too. I know that's no help to you! Sorry! Unfortunately I have a ton of places that wouldn't hurt on my bum!!!

When Abby was on MDI, we used her hips, right above the underwear line, and on the thigh, outer part right under the underwear leg line.
We never used her bottom.

The bottom is the ONLY thing we use - I'm trying some bribery to use something else but so far that's been a no go.. We also have the CGM now so it's been a challenge with that in his upper behind to also rotate the shots, you have to be 3 inches away from the sensor. So we have started to spread out a bit more. Try having your child lay on the floor on their tummy, kinda push up a cheek and the upper portion of the cheek and to the side a bit is all good for shots - hpoe that helps!

before theo started on the pump we always used his bottom , he found it less painful (it was also easier to do as he was little).I was told to do it on centre of the cheek ;).We found it much easier than trying to do it in his arm or leg as he would often pull away .

Mia too developped bruising from almost exclusively using the arms for shots. The nurse told us it was best to rotate sites but keep the rotation order the same. So we ended up with belly shot for breakfeast (biggest battle), arms for lunch and the bum for dinner. Anything else, we either used the upper thigh or let Mia have her choice. As far as the bum goes, we used to use the upper fleshy part of the bum; in other words she wouldnt even have to get up for the shot..that part! Now we are pumping and we are exclusively using her upper bum and hip area since she is still too lean for the str8-in sets in her belly.
Good luck!

If this helps they have always told us to use the fatty area above the sit line but below the top of the crack. This has always worked well for us and is also the area we use for infusion sets. When on injections we also used the arms too much and her poor little arms were awful after a while. Tummy works great too if there is enough padding.

We need to lay off the arms as well. But Adin hates the butt and I cant grab anything on his tummy to shoot. I have tried but he cries with the tummy. I will have to use your descriptions to try the butt again. We give Lantus in his legs. The one time I tried Lantus in the hiney he screamed.

So funny how kids get used to one spot and don't like to try others.
We, too had the problem with overusing the arms.
Our endo recommended when we do the butt to have him lean against a chair or a couch so that he wasn't laying flat, but not standing straight and then do the shot on the fleshy part that you can pinch up pretty well.

Thanks everyone!
We weren't sure why he developed the lumps in the arms as we always rotate sites. It used to be arm for breakfast and bedtime (Lantus) and legs for lunch and dinner. Now it is legs for breakfast and bedtime and butt for lunch and dinner.

My daughter uses her upper part of the butt for the lantus shot and her stomach for the insulin. But she needs to give the belly a rest but she will be pumping in One week. I think its so hard for the kids to change shot sites when they have used them for so long. She pinches her skin till it hurts so she can't feel the needle.. Bless her heart..
Unfortunately I have a ton of places that wouldn't hurt on my bum!!!
Me Too!!!!!!!
The only place that we can and ever have been able to use for a site is Aidan's butt! The endo always tells us to move it around and we ask him to show us specifically on Aidan's body where that new site would be....after careful inspection and hmmmm's......he ALWAYS agrees with us that there really is no other place to put a site.
He has and always has had minimal body fat!!!

I use my entire tush. It all hurts. I use Lantus only on my tush, and the novolog everywhere else, so it's also the lantus stings that make it hurt, but OUCH. The upper parts hurt more.
My endo in the hospital said she would not put me on Lantus unless I promised to put it in my tush, because she said that it would absorb better that way. I don't think it really does, but at this point it's a habit.
