I just posted the same thread in continuous glucose sensing and thought maybe I shoul do it here too!

My daughter started on the minilink 2 days ago. We love it!

However, this morning I woke up to it sirening. I have the baby monitor in her room and the receiver right next to my bed, but I still didn't hear it. Any suggestions, should I put the monitor in bed with her, get a new monitor, sleep on her floor!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

My first question would be if you have tested the monitor to see if you can hear through it during the day. The reason I say this is because I had to try 3 different baby monitors in order to find one that I could hear through. Many of the newer one have features that fade out background noise. I couldn't hear the alarm through those at all.

I agree that the alarms need to be able to have increased volume! That was my first complaint with the CGMS. I called MM to let them know to keep this in mind for the next upgrade!

Thanks Kristi! :cwds: I appreciate your suggestion.

Now that you mention it there is a lot of white noise on the monitor. I will try it today when she gets home from school. The good news is with the cgms is that I caught her at 240 instead of 400.

Try a "Spy" store for some really good audio surveillance.

Ahhh why haven't I thought of that!!! That is a great suggestion indeed!! I got so frustrated trying to find a baby monitor without static so I could hear Mia's pump alarm that I simply....gave up .

Thanks, D-Dad!!

If anyone comes up with some kind of device that works please post it I have been sleeping in my sons room for over 5 weeks for all the same reasons yall have here, I would love to sleep in my own bed, as for a spy store where do you find one of those?

This is a HORRIBLE problem with the MM system. The little piezo speaker in the pump is very quiet, and there's just not enough power to make it louder. (1 AAA battery won't power a train horn...)

I'm going to work on some stuff, I'll post if I'm successful. But here's a few ideas:

1. The spystore thing. (Good idea)
2. A small FRMS walkie-talkie with VOX activated transmit - And put it and the pump together. I'd be worried about clanking and such during the nightly toss-n-turn, but it may work. (It'd be cheap, too)
3. A microphone attached to the pump - basically remote mic a baby monitor.

The ideal would be to use a computer and monitor the pump via the meter RF link - does anybody know if the alarm does anything to the RF transmitted by the pump?

I have an idea that might work for you. My friend is very hard of hearing. She takes care of her mother who is 90 years old. Well anyway, she got this thing that comes in two parts where the transmitter is plugged into the outlet in her mom's room and the receiver which is actually this huge vibrator is under my friends mattress. The thing is so sound sensitive that when her mother makes any sound, my friends mattress vibrates waking her up. I also think you can get them so the lights flash. You will have to contact your local speech and hearing center or you can go to http://www.harriscomm.com
and you will need a sound signaler and then you will need a receiver. I forget what kind my friend uses but it definitely works. I hope this helps. I am Deaf myself so am well aware of these devices but I do not know what is available in your area. Believe me they are very sound sensitive and you can adjust the sensitivity level. You do not have to be in the same room. There are other websites besides the one mentioned. Just google in products for Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

The problem you describe is well known in clinical circles. Dr. Bruce Buckingham even includes video (with audio) of the sensor in various locations on a bed, including on top of the bed (you can hear it), under covers (you can barely hear it), and under his body under covers (you can't hear anything).

Oddly enough, in some studies, even with the alarm blaring and audible, some parents and kids don't wake up. Dr. Buckingham has video from clinical studies showing that.

Thanks so much for this thread! We got the CGMS on Friday and I've been having the same issue- thought I was so clever for saving the baby monitors and they're USELESS!! The spy store thing is a fantastic idea- there's one in the center of the city here so I'll check it out tomorrow and let you guys know what I find.
