Anyone going to Camp Colorado? This will be our first year. I'm a bit confused as to the medical form needed to be filled out by the primary care dr. It says date of exam, date of last physical. Does this mean they need an exam? He had his physical in Dec and hasn't been in since then:D

Melissa isn't going to the same camp but the camp that she goes to requires a quick physical done within a month before the camp date. The doc fills out the form when we are there for the check up. Her pediatrician does it.

My son is going to a camp also in July and I just faxed it over to his Endo and they filled it out.

We are hoping so. We still haven't gotten our application in. I know ... I'm lame! Actually she just decided a few days ago that she wants to go this year. I hope we make it on time!

Heidi,
I think it is due the 18th. My Sam is the same age as yours, I'm sure they will meet if she decides to go!!

Yeah, we picked one up at our last appointment at the BDC, but it seems to have disappeared so I called April this morning to request a new one.

That is so cool that our kids will meet! I am so excited for Samantha. She was contemplating going last year, but decided she wasn't ready and that she'd rather wait until she was pumping. This year she is so excited! She has already asked me every day if I have sent the application in yet. So I best get it done, huh?!?!

what part of town are you in? We have a friend with a dd that is also 8 and pumping---they recently moved here. She won't make it to camp due to travel.
Our neighbor who is also 8 may go if there is space available---her sister is D so she is not a first priority. fun girl though!

We live in Highlands Ranch. You?

we're in the Ranch too!! We go to Summit View, what school do you go to?

NO WAY!!! I used to work at the Before and After school program at Summit View back when I was in college! I know Mr. McCurdy is still there, I wonder who else is still around.

My daughter actually goes to a Cheery Creek School because it is closer to my work. When she was on MDI I had to be close by to deal with all of the nurse issues. She goes to Heritage Elementary over off of Quebec and Arapahoe. But we live literally three doors down from Saddle Ranch Elementary School. We have got to get our kids together!!!

we definitely will get the kids together!! We hit the pools hard come summer!!Was Bernadette there when you were there? She does the extended day kindergarden.
Ms Liepold has been there forever too I have heard. Sam's tech lab teacher in K is a mom of a D kiddo. She took a job there to educate the staff, so thankfully they know what they are doing for the most part.
We love the school, district nurse is "interesting"
I'm sure we know some of the same people. Do you know many of the D families around here?
Is Saddle Ranch the school near Broadway and Wild Cat? I know we played baseball there, but can't remember exactly where it is.

Bernadette was not there then. This was back in 94 or 95, a looong time ago!

Saddle Ranch is the school near Wildcat and Broadway. Sammy plays softball with a whole bunch of Saddle Ranch kids. Unfortunately they never get to practice at Saddle Ranch. Usually we go to Marcy Park for Practice and our games are all over the place this year.

No we really don't know any families with D in the area. At a MiniMed function I met the father of a family who does a support group in the Ranch. He works for MiniMed and gave me his card. I was going to call and try to go to one of their groups, but I can't find the stupid card to save my life! It sounds like you know at least a few families with D around these parts!

It is weird. Until hitting the forums I haven't really reached out to any other families with D. My dad has D, so for me it has always been something that for us wasn't a mystery or all that out of the ordinary. But as time has gone by I have realized how much it helps to be in the same boat as other folks.

I am so glad there is a mom who works at Summit View that has helped with D education. That can be a huge hurdle!

If you want to take this conversation off the board, feel free to email me at heidi dot eikenhorst at gmail dot com.:D

You guys crack me up! Glad you found you're so close! :) From your original post... I've just had our endo do everything as far as the physical goes when we have out last appt. before camp. Granted this is in IL, but I'd think a lot of this is universal.

Let us know how they like camp! Very positive experience for us!

Yeah, sorry we kinda hijacked the thread! :o

Back on topic though, I spoke with April at Camp Colorado today and she said that as long as I get the application back in soon we should have no problem with Sammy getting a spot. She said there is still some room for campers her age. WOOHOO!! I should have the application tomorrow and will get it in the mail by Monday!:D

Heidi, we definitely have to get together. If there is still space available then they will let my neighbor go, who is a non-d. She is the same age as your dd and would be in the same cabin!!

Very cool! I can't wait for camp. This is the first time Samantha will not be in the care of family since diagnosis. This will be so wonderful for her! Is Sam excited about going?

he is super excited, i'm excited too!! A few nights of worry free sleep---priceless:D
He has spent the night out at friends houses a few times, only twice since pumping. Helps that a buddy's dad is the minimed rep with D himself, he probably gets better care over there than here

I have such fond memories of camp growing up!! I would always talk to him about how i wanted him to go to my camp. The irony, a good friend I made a camp just moved back here a year ago. Her dd is D and she also said she had talked to her about "our" camp, but we agree, Camp colorado is the place for them.

I think most of the nurses from Barbara Davis go for the week. I know that they practically close down the center. Knowing that they check them all night is great. I"m sure I'll be so refreshed after that week!!

Yeah, I remember that Samantha got ill one year during camp week and I couldn't speak with our usual CDE because she was up at camp. This has me totally reassured. I know she will be taken care of better at camp than she is at her dad's house. This will truly be a stress free break for me!
