How do you set the dual wave bolus? Our endo told us to start using the dual wave after each meal and we should get better readings. He told us to set it to 70% now and 30% 2 hours after. I can't figure out how to set the 70% and 30% it will only show 75% and 25% and i don't know when the other 25% is given??? I'm so confused:eek: Chase has the 722 MINIMED

i'm not sure which model pump we have, but use the blue arrow to scroll up and down to determine the percentages for now vs the square part. Then press act and then it will pop up with :30 automatically and then you scroll up. i think you can set a dual for up to 8 hours.
I think you need to make sure first that your dual wave/square wave option is turned on.
When you get to the "set dual bolus total" screen, use the arrows to scroll up and down for the TOTAL amount of the bolus. Then press ACT. The next screen should show the "now" vs. "square" percentage proportions, which should change when you use the up/down buttons. As it takes away from the one, it should automatically add to the other. HTH :)

Hi Beth I did that lat night and when I would push the buttons up and down the percentages were like 50 -50, 75-25, like that not 70-30 which is what i'm looking for. Maybe the nurse at the endos office was confused as to what Chase's pump had in it. And do you have to set the percetages everytime??

it depends on how much insulin you are giving, sometimes it just can't break it down to make a perfect 70-30 split so you'll get 75 -25 or 65-35.. which ever you choose.. and then on the next screen you should be able to choose the length.. over how many hours:)

Ok I finally figured it out now I have another question which my son brought up last night. What do you do if he wants to eat something in between the time of the second bolus over the two hours that it is scheduled? And if your supposed to check BS 2 hours after meals how do you do that when all the bolus hasn't been delivered? Do you check at the 3 hour point or what?? Last night was crazy trying to figure all this out. Thanks for your help.:D
Kathy,
We are kind of experimenting with the same thing right now. Having been pumping now for a little over a month, I'm trying to experiment with this dual wave thing and see what works for us. Several times, we have done a dual wave bolus for dinner and then another regular bolus a couple of hours later (still while the "square" portion of the dual wave is going on) to cover a snack before bed. Last night it worked fairly well for us. We had McDonalds for dinner :p He entered the carb count (including an extra 10...to cover the fat), did a dual wave 50/50 for 6 hours. We ate around 6:00. He bolused for the carbs for an evening snack. I should have had him test before he went to bed, but I forgot, so I tested him around 10:30 and he was 118. The dual wave was still active. I made no changes. I checked again at 2:30...he was 156. Since the dual wave was over by then, and there was no active insulin, I corrected using the bolus wizard feature. His morning number was 119. I think next time I'll try 8 hours for the dual wave with a really high fat meal (I've noticed the same for pizza...6 hours isn't long enough for my son). I can't believe how long it stays in his system...of course he is almost 12 and can down huge quantities at a time.
We don't routinely check BS 2 hours after meals...only in certain circumstances if I am curious about something, or if he feels low.

Beth how do you know if the dose is correct if you don't do a 2 hr post? What if he goes high and needs a correction? I usually don't worry about the lows cause Chase can always tell, but the highs he can't. So you only check bs before meals? And correct if high then? I'm still learning also sorry so many questions. Thanks
