Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc. said Wednesday that it obtained positive results from a recently completed Phase 2 study of its LX4211 drug in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc. /quotes/comstock/15*!lxrx/quotes/nls/lxrx (LXRX 2.28, +0.03, +1.33%) said Wednesday that it obtained positive results from a recently completed Phase 2 study of its LX4211 drug in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The group said results from the four-week, 36-patient study exceeded its expectations. "Rapid improvement in multiple parameters of diabetes, meaningful weight loss, a favorable safety profile and the fact that LX4211-treated patients exhibited improvements in clinically-important metabolic and cardiovascular parameters within four weeks on a single agent is remarkable," said Philip Brown, the company's senior vice president of clinical development.
