I'm so sorry you've been sick. It down right sucks.

Have you called your doctor yet? Many times you will need extra insulin to get rid of those ketones. - I have always hated that because I'm always scared of going low. But you do need the extra insulin.

Get plenty of rest, exercising and being active is not going to help the ketones, its just gonna make them stay around longer.

And, like you've already said - keep pushing the fluids. I totally understand hating that. But, personally, i'd rather drink a LOT of fluids at home than be in the hospital with the nurses trying to get me to drink just as much as I woulda at home- but by that time - i'm so sick and they have to hook me up to an IV to get the ketones cleared. - I've had that whole scenario happen a couple times.

Ketones DO make you feel even sicker than what you would without them. (that's redundant). So, just do your best to clear them. Talk to your doctor, he/she will love to help, if you haven't already done that.

;) ;) I really hope you feel better soon! ;) ;)

I'm no teen, but I do have D and my son also does. Ketones may take some time to clear up and they may not all be attributable to high blood sugars. If you are not eating or taking in some form of carbs your body will also start breaking down muscle and ketones will arise that way as well. Also once you have ketones your correction scale for blood sugars is generally a bit higher. Remember not to do any strenuous activity with ketones because it just makes it worse because your body needs to use something to get energy, so it will just get it from muscle breakdown once again, causing more ketones. Its a vicious circle and it sure makes you feel pretty crummy too!

Drink, drink, drink, try to get some carbs in you and I truly hope you are feeling better very soon.
