We started with the new Guardian 10 days ago and it is almost used up the second AAA battery already.

How long does your battery last?

OK, we sometimes use the backlight and usually have the 3-hour graph displayed without a timeout instead of the more energy saving blank screen, but still it seems awfully fast. For now we used the Energizer batteries that came in the box.

For some reason they advise against using rechargeable batteries.

Yikes! That seems really fast.
Ours is the pump version of course, but the battery lasts about a month w/ 24/7 cgm use and the meter function turned on; and I constantly use the back light.

What size battery do you use in the pump?

The Guardian takes a AAA, but the Animas pump a AA. I wonder if they decided to use the smaller battery to make it a couple of grams lighter...

Yowza, that does seem too fast. We look at ours A LOT and also use the backlight most times without manually turning it off - seem to be at about a battery a month now.

My guess is it is the timeout function. If you really only look at it 5-10 seconds of any minute, there would be 50+ seconds of unnecessary battery use per minute. And if you did that every minute (not hard to do those first weeks!).... thats a lot of seconds of battery life!

Odd.

Maybe the problem is the batteries that came with it. I think the second battery that came with the unit will run out in a couple of days and I will put in different, new batteries and we shall see if there is any difference.

But when Dex receiver's battery wears out, $550 to replace it.
I could buy an awful lot of alkaline AAAs for $550.
