Giving obesity a pounding

Battling surging obesity rates among both kids and their parents seems to require superhuman strength - so why not call on some superheroes to help out? Aussie fitness instructor Tony Findlay has joined forces with former Marvel Comics executives to launch the interactive game pack "Escape From Obeez City."

The kit features an hour-long CGI animated film starring "Body Mechanics" Gluke (glucagon), Soolynn (insulin), Sara Bellum (cerebellum) and her dad Neuro. They're pitted against evil-doers in the Coalition for Harm and Disease, whose members include Beetez II (Type II diabetes), Col Esterol and Kortizol.

It may sound a bit hokey on the surface, but both kids and parents taking part in a trial study in Rye Brook, N.Y., are giving the program enthusiastic endorsements - as are some obesity experts, like Dr. James Rosser of Beth Israel Medical Center, who appears in the video.

Also included is an interactive DVD game with more than 1,700 health and nutrition questions, a guide for parents, life-size wall poster detailing the characters, carrying pouch, physical fitness skills cards and more. It's available online now (www.bodymechanics.tv (http://www.bodymechanics.tv)) for $79.99, with more film installments and brand extensions already in the works.

I did buy this at the "sale" price - and wish I had my money back. I don't find it very attractive and doubt it will be very appealing to kids.
