I just want to say that I am pleased to find something like this forum on the internet. My son was diagnosed about one and a half years ago, and I must say that the wealth of opinions and unbiased information on this forum is amazing. Thank you to everyone that has ever posted any information on this forum. I believe it takes alot to share your own intimate experiences about the trials and tribulations you can go through trying to cope with diabetes.
Thanks again

Hello, and welcome! Are you active-duty Air Force, by chance? If so, you must be at the DCMA office...the base is closed in Witchita, right? There are several military folk who post on this board, and at least 2 of us are Air Force families. :)

Just to jump on the Air Force bandwagon ... I am not air force, but my cousin was the former Commander at McConnell. She was replaced by Colonel Halpin in Feb. 2006 when she was assigned to the Pentagon.

Hasn't McConnell since closed? Gee, maybe I have my BRAC'd bases mixed up!

How far is Colorado Springs from Denver? My DH only has 2 years left till retirement, but they are constantly changing the location and duration of his job. We still think we'll have a chance to retire where we are and choose where to live after that, but a phone call he received this week is causing us to weigh our other options regarding moving. This is the military, after all, I suppose!
Anyway, there's some talk of a job in CO Springs. I've never even been there, but most seem to like it. I know you go to the BDC, and I also know there's a huge wait list currently. Sigh. I wonder if there are good Endo's in the Springs?
Ah well, if and when it comes down to that, I'll have to have a long talk with you! :o

Feel free to PM me! I have spent a little bit of time in the Springs and it is gorgeous. When my cousin was teaching at the Academy they lived down there and it is a nice place. It is only about an 1 1/2 hours south of Denver, so a trip to the BDC would be easy! I would definitely call them about a waiting list, though and see if you could get your name down. They also make clinic trips to various ends of the state (Grand Junction, Durango) so that may be an option if they go to the Springs as well. You can always take your name off, if you decide not to move to CO. Pretty much all of CO is beautiful. I have lived here my whole life and would never consider moving unless I had to. But the lifestyle isn't for everyone. People who prefer a more active "city life" don't tend to enjoy CO all that much. But if you like outdoor activities or even just hanging out outside then Colorado is a great choice.

Welcome!
We are a military family also - 23 years in the Air Force. We were doing a remote exchange assignment when our 9 year old daugter was diagnosed last May so we are now at Lackland AFB.
It's been quite a year but getting on the pump has helped normalize things....as much as puberty allows! Glad you found your way here!
