We are home from the endo visit. Ds's A1c was 6.9. I don't know how. I think the highs and lows must have cancelled out each other.

I spoke to the dietician about the delayed pizza spikes and she gave me the same advice as I got here.

We spoke to the doctor about getting a CGMS. He had the nurse show us a sensor. I could not believe how tiny it was! Ds is hesitant about getting one. He is on Novolog and Lantus and hasn't wanted to wear anything 24/7. He will have the final decision, but it would be so nice! He has lows during the night without waking and I am so tired from checking him during the night. I think we could even prevent lows from what I have been reading. I know I would still be getting up, but only when he was low or approaching a low. I have to admit, the insertion needle was bigger than I was expecting, but it only stays in a second. The nurse told him he could wear a practice sensor home the next visit if he was ready.

During the visit, the doctor asked our son how he was doing. He told him he had been having more puberty than usual!! I thought the doctor was going to fall off his seat laughing!

I hope this all makes sense...I know I am rambling. My brain is still tired from the trip. Overall, it was a good visit. :)

sounds like you had a great visit, great A1c, I hope its not from to many highs and lows.. thats what I worry about at Kaylee's next appointment.. she's had so many lows lately..

for what its worth, Kaylee doesn't even know that something is attached to her.. she constantly 'forgets' about it.. when her pump broke last week I took it off her in the middle of the night.. she didn't even realize in the morning, when I had to give her a shot she asked why.. i told her, and she looked at me like I was crazy, while searching for her pump pack on her waist:)

I can't wait to get a CGMS for her.. she told me she wants a site like her pump site so she doesn't have to do as many finger pokes.. we'll use that at her next appointment with her endo:)

If he's going through puberty, a CGMS would be more valuable than you could ever imagine..... I am on Day 5 of my "Dexcom Adventure", and still using the same sensor. I am going to try and shoot for 10-14 days per sensor(others have done it).

Even though I am obviously done growing, I cant TELL you how much I have learned about my body in the last 5 days. I learned that I can avoid tremendous post-prandial spikes in BG.

If I ABSOLUTELY 100% KNOW what I want to eat (and I always do[have car/ambulance, will travel]) if my starting BG is 100 and I bolus 10-15 minutes before I eat, my BG's dont get above 180 regardless!

hmmm. Are you thinking about pump-based Minimed and quiting MDI, or staying on MDI and using one of the non-pump choices?

With the 'Guardian' or the Dexcom, you're not really "wearing" anything at all: just the tiny Sensor and Transmitter on your body. The big "receiver" part just sits in your pocket, like a cell phone.

(Between these two, I think Guardian is more suitable, because the Sensor is waterproof. But the Dexcom has a reputation for being a bit better/faster at catching lows, and it costs much less to buy. I've been wearing Dex for almost year.)
