I know many of you have mixed feelings about these types of posts, but I just feel so sad and scared. She was a healthy child, and went down so quickly. All I can say is that if my children get sick like this, I'm going to sit at the hospital and they can either admit them to watch them, or I'll just sit in the waiting room!

This is why I'm so scared about this. I live in the same city. I can't let him out of my site. We're to call the doctor if he gets anything like they talked about in the article. I just can't imagine. I feel so for the parents. I also don't understand how they could possibly allow it to get to that point. It could have all be prevented. JMO...:(

The scariest part was that she had no underlying health conditions. And that the dr told them not to worry about the fever unless it reached 105!! What the heck!! That makes no sense to me. 102-103, Id be in the ER and screw what that dr said!!

I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes for this family. This little girl was raised in a town not far from us and we saw this report on the news tonight and my heart breaks for this family. I will be saying a prayer for her family and for our kids with T1D to be safe and stay flu free:cwds:

Our doctor never hesitated in prescribing Tamiflu and that is probably because of the d. But what I don't understand is why they didn't do an adult dose for her. You have to be 84 lbs and even if she didn't weigh enough, they could have made a pediatric dose out of it, like they did for us, for her. I'm not sure, but I don't believe there is a shortage of Tamiflu in our county. :(

I just think this story is sad, so incredibly sad.

I know my chest hurt like the dickens - I almost bought an OTC inhaler to help me breath; but it went away after about 8 hours. I can definitely see why so many people are in the hospital with this.

That is so sad...

To me it sounds like it was pneumonia that killed her. Yes, she had h1n1, and that probably led to the pneumonia, but many upper respitory illness can lead to pneumonia.

I did not read this post until today, but Sis came home this morning with the same news. I wonder if the flu strain in states near the Mexican border is more virilent and there may also be a weaker strain? Only wondering because there are a lot of deaths in Mexico and so few here. The vaccine should be released shortly.... sometime this month. This is very sad.

I cannot believe that stupid doctor didn't give her tamiflu! My yougest was dx'd w/swine flu last week. The nurse asked if I wanted tamiflu for the rest of my family and I declined, my DD got sick Mon. night I called the doctor's yesterday and they called it in w/out even seeing her. I will pray for this family :(
