well today I did..I took the baby to the urgent care he woke up from his nap screaming and pulling at his ear, runny nose and of course our Drs office was closed so I went there.
Ok this guy so called Dr looks at the baby ( Jorden is 21 months) after his exam he tells me it looks like he has a runny nose...duh I only wiped his nose like 10 times while he was in the room with us, then he goes on to say he is sick:eek: why did he think I was there??? he tells me the best thing to stop him from getting sick is to wash his hands thats what Doctors do....(really now) he said for me to wash the babies hands often..ok so I ask him how do you tell a 21months old NOT to put his hands on his face and snotty nose, again he tells me to wash his hands, so I said I understand that but as soon as his nose runs do you know what a baby will do....so first hand Jorden showed him he sneezed snot came poring out and his hands went right to his face and rubbed it all over..now for the smart Drs words ..."dont let him do that"...now how do you get him not to do that I asked him, he just said tell him no ...oh ok I didnt know that would work:rolleyes:

I do not ever trust the ER doc's instructions. EVER.
We as parents have WAY more instnct in dealing with sick kids. The only reason we show up at the ER or Urgent Care is when we need meds that we can't prescribe ourselves. I wish they could understand that.

This doctor, and I use that term loosely, must have been a real prize. What an idiot!

Sorry your little one is sick.
I've not had good experiences lately with urgent care drs giving antibiotics. Both times they gave wrong doses---too little. One time gave wrong kind for the type of infection they were going to treat.
If possible, run it by your dr in the AM to confirm right tx

Did Jorden get any medication for his ear infection, or did the guy, I mean, Dr. not find an ear infection?? (could he find his ear?).

Geez...don't ya wish you knew the trick of telling him no 10 kids ago? That would have been a good tip to know huh.
Glad you will hae the meds on hand just incase you want to use them. What field trip do you have planned for the baby next week? lol

Clearly this doctor doesn't have kids. I think he should spend a week in a daycare with toddlers. No maybe it better be a month. He needs a months worth of snotty noses, kids eating dirt, projectile vomiting that lands across the room or in another room, kids throwing up in his face, falling asleep with their faces in the food, sitting in puddles after you tell them not to, because you forget the 5 other puddles that are near the one you told them not to sit in. And what 21 month old knows enough to run and get a kleenex and cover their nose when they are going to sneeze?

Speaking of dumb doctors!!!! My son's doctor (when we lived in MS) diagnosed him with Muscular Torticolis the day before he was dx'd with D. He had lost all muscle control and couldn't hold his head up. After I did some research on this strange condition, I found out it happens to babies when they come through the birth canal and my son was born C-section!!! AAAAGGGHHH. He was in severe DKA with a blood sugar over 1000! Good thing I rushed him to the ER the next day.

yes i have dealt with one dumb doctor. Once when my husband was stationed at ft bliss texas, and austin was 20 months old (3 days before katerina was born). Austin had been vomiting and having diarrhea for 4 days and had lost weight, and as of that day when i took him to the dr (only because the ER was backed up for hours) he had not urinated. This intern came in, said he was dehydrated but said I should take him home and give him pedialyte. I had to argue with her, and said please give him an IV, he is vomiting and is now unable to urinate.:( She calls the head of the peds dept because she thinks I am overstepping my bounds, the head of the peds dept came in and asked her "why haven't you started an IV on this baby yet?" Her response??? "I didn't want to do that because he is so young." excuse me? thank God for back up doctors (maybe this is why the head of peds was there).
