DexCom Gets Positive Medicare Response for Development of Glucose Monitoring Device Codes

NEW YORK (AP) -- Medical device maker DexCom Inc. said Monday it is one step closer to gaining reimbursement for its continuous glucose monitoring devices.
The company said the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid issued a positive preliminary decision on Friday for DexCom to develop Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System codes for its devices. The codes describe specific health care items and procedures and are necessary for processing health insurance claims.

However, DexCom must still receive a final decision from CMS following a public meeting on May 1.

The company expects a final decision to be published in late October or early November. If the code is issued then, DexCom expects the HCPCS codes to go into effect Jan. 1, 2008.

That's really great news!!!! One step closer to coverage for everyone!!!!!!!:D

Hey Becky, Are you still paying upfront and getting reimbursed for each order? Or is UHC paying for your sensors upfront now?
I'm still having to haggle over every order... ugh!

I did finally call MM and they are going to try to get the approval for each order for me, so they can bill UHC directly. UHC still has ours set up as a "single case negotiation", so every order has to be approved.

I am paying and being reimbursed but I am trying to get Dexcom to submit the claims themselves. I have approval for GAP in-network coverage through the end of the year. I hope to get this in writing and send it off to Dexcom for proof! I've been distracted and need to do this, so it's my fault for the delay :)
UHC is a mess... I speak from personal experience! My hubby is involved in their system that records calls for training purposes and he won't say much, except that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. But, they are working on improving things, so at least they are moving forward.

Good luck!
