:D We went yesterday for Brandon's saline start. He did really well...he was fighting back some tears after we did the site. He was so brave! Our pump trainer didn't have us use any kind of numbing cream or spray. He said on the way home he wanted to take it out, because he changed his mind. We asked if she recommended using any numbing cream before we did the site. She said she tries the first time without, and if the person has a hard time with it she will get us a prescription for Emula cream that we can get filled. After explaining that to him, and showing him today what he would have to do instead of an injection. He said he really likes his pump.

I asked about getting another Quick-serter for school, and she said she didn't see any need for them to have to do a site change at school. She suggested that they call me and have me come in and do it. Our nurse at school is WONDERFUL! She has another boy that has D and has a pump, and she just told me she had to do a site change with him (he is very independant & did it by himself) a couple of weeks ago when he accidently pulled his site out. How many Quick-serters do you have & how do you do with site changes at school?

We go back on Tuesday for the insulin start...hope he likes it!!!!!!!!!!

FYI-- I keep a full set of everything at school. There have been times my daughter has needed a set change at school and I have been out. It was much easier to go to school and have the serter, sets, insulin and all the wipes there. It saved me the trip home and then back to school. :)

Congrats on the pump start! You will love it once you get adjusted to it!

Keep an infusion set, wipes (skin tac?) etc. in the clinic or where ever they choose to keep the D stuff for school. We did have to change once during school at the beginning when my son accidentally pulled his pants down and dislodged the site. I am only 5 minutes from his school so that wasn't a huge deal (but still scary!). But your child will learn to change on his own very quickly. Just be sure you have the equipment on hand at school since it makes it so much easier! Great news and good luck with pumping! It is the greatest!!! :)

Things are going really well since he started with insulin yesterday. He is LOVING his pump...me too! :D I made it thru the 2 hour checks last night and only have to check him at midnight & 3 am tonight. I look/feel like a zombie, but it was so worth it. We had to make 2 basal changes for overnight. He was running high (163 & 171 at 12am & 2am) hopefully the changes will help. I'm loving all the avatars of our kids. Brandon *loves* to have his picture taken as you can see! ;) Thanks for all the well wishes! It's wonderful to have so many people understand our feelings/concerns. I ordered 2 more quick-serters...one for school, and one for 'just-in-case'.

YAY!!! It is so reassuring to hear how much he likes the pump and how well things are going (even if it is a lot of work). We start with saline on the 23rd and go live with insulin 2 1/2 days later and I CAN'T WAIT!!! Hearing about Brandon's pump journey has really helped me to remember that we have made a good decision!

Excellent!

We have 2 quick-serters, but both for us. We've inserted quick-sets manually too.

Our school nurse is.... well.... somewhat less than optimal. A site change is waaaaaay beyond the "do ya want fries with that?" level we commonly operate at. Luckily, DW is a SAHM, and can run over to the school quickly.

Besides, we can always bolus every coupla hours with a pen or syringe. It works ok.
