if your non D child's A1C was 6.0? Our ped says it is in range so don't worry but looking online it seemed at the very high end of normal so I asked Hailey's Endo nurse and she says that is a bit high for her and to monitor her closely and recheck the A1C in 3 months. My question is do I ask the ped to recheck in 3 months and risk her getting upset that I asked the Endo or wait the 3 months and just tell them I think she needs retested? OR should I let it go and take the peds word that it is nothing to worry about? Looking online a 6.0 coincides with an average of 136 seems to me that she HAS to be going higher to get that number as the couple of times I tested her she was in the 80's.

I'd watch her and recheck the A1C in three months like the endo nurse suggested.

I would definitely ask for a re-test in 3 months and if you can in the meantime do some fasting BG's and then some 2 hour post-meal BG checks and write them down as "ammunition" for the ped that would be good also. In case you see some spikes, documenting it would be very important to sell the point that she needs to be monitored closely.
Good luck and keep us posted!

How long before dx was that? What made you test in the first place?

One of the things to keep in mind here is that the difference between 5.5 and 6 is the difference between completely normal and "on the high side of normal". And, the immunoflourescence A1C systems are only accurate to about 0.5% anyway.
I think we all worry a lot about our kids, but this is definitely not something to get stressed about. Just something to keep in the back of your mind. So sure, keep an eye on her sugars with a meter once in a while, but if you never see unusually high blood sugars, I wouldn't recommend getting to concerned.

I agree. The pediatrician works for you; you are the customer, don't be afraid to ask for what you think is best.
