See the full article, the idea is to block T cells from getting to beta cells.

Do you think this would this work just for early onset (<3 months) like Diamyd or in children with Type 1 for longer?

(p.s. Thanks for posting. My son believes D is temporary and a cure will be found! I hope he is right!)

Hmmm. (as I sit and ponder the article)
Be very careful of science by press release.
Science by article in trusted, peer reviewed journal is much better.
I mention this because, while getting rid of a lot of old papers yesterday, I came upon a JDRF (then JDF) newsletter promoting two non-invasive glusoe sensors that both turned out to be complete frauds.

It sounds to me like it might prevent destruction of beta cells, therefore it would not be a viable option for those people with Diabetes who already have complete beta cell destruction. Now if that person were to have a successful islet cell transplant, this may aid in preventing the inevitable autoimmune response that would kill the beta cells.

Right you are Jeff. I like to read just about everything and since I assume others do too so I offer it up as I stumble across it. Caveat emptor.
I think the significance isn't as much in one study or one company but in understanding the variety of approaches being taken.
To be honest I wonder more about the relationship between JDRF and the companies that anything else but then I am a bit of a skeptic.
